Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. Puts an End to Stephen Curry Trade Talks After Strong Celtics Rumors

Stephen Curry has been one of the most rumored players to be traded this offseason. The reason is that the Golden State Warriors have once again failed to surround Curry with other pieces that could help him contend for a title. The Warriors missed out on signing LeBron James in free agency and also reportedly passed up on the opportunity to trade for Jaylen Brown.

Since then, many have speculated that Steph could soon request a trade. One of the teams most rumored to be a landing spot for Curry is the Boston Celtics. However, Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. finally broke his silence on the rumors and addressed his star player's situation.

"There are two things I'm confident about Steph: He wants to win, and he wants to finish his career as a Warrior," Dunleavy told Warriors beat writer Danny Emerman.

While there's no doubting that Curry would want to retire as a Warrior, Dunleavy's statement about winning is quite questionable. Golden State hasn't made any significant offseason moves to bolster its roster.

Heading into the 2026-27 season, Curry, Draymond Green, Jimmy Butler, and Kristaps Porzingis will serve as the team's core. On paper, they seem to be a good team, especially with their individual accomplishments.

However, based on their age and injury history, they don't seem to be a team capable of consistently winning games.

Steph is already 38 years old and could soon show signs of decline on the hardwood. While Draymond remains the team's enforcer, he isn't as efficient on defense as he once was for the Warriors.

Then there are Butler and Porzingis, who are both prone to injuries. Having said all that, the idea of the Warriors contending might be too ambitious rather than accurate.

Warriors Rookie is Excited to Work With Stephen Curry

Now that Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. has shut down the rumors of Stephen Curry leaving the team, we can now look forward to what's to come in the 2026-27 season.

In June, the Warriors drafted Yaxel Lendeborg as the 11th pick. To everyone's surprise, Lendeborg became the steal of the 2026 draft due to his superb performance in the NBA Summer League.

Lendeborg led the Warriors to a Summer League championship and was named MVP.

With that in mind, it seems that the Warriors have scored big on the acquisition of Lendeborg. While the team is now looking forward to seeing what the young rookie can contribute in the coming season, Yaxel can't help but be mesmerized by the presence of Steph.

In his recent Kick livestream, Lendeborg shared how excited he was to work with Curry after witnessing Curry's greatness during a workout session.

"I was like, (Stephen Curry) don’t really miss at all," Lendeborg said. "That s**t was damn near making me mad. Like, I’m mad as hell lowkey. I just saw him work out today, bro. I was glazing the whole time, I ain’t gonna lie. I’m gonna go talk to him like, 'Yo bro, how do I shoot like you?'"

With Curry now confirmed to be staying with the Warriors, Lendeborg will have plenty of time to learn from one of the best shooters in league history. It'll be exciting to see how Steph can help mold the young Yaxel into the Warriors' next big star.
