Warriors Linked to 7 Foot Spurs Star Amid Stephen Curry Trade Buzz, per Reports

Ever since Jaylen Brown and LeBron James ended up with the Philadelphia 76ers, the Golden State Warriors have been on the hot seat. While it's no secret that James could've ended up in the Bay Area this summer, Golden State fans were surprised when the news about the Warriors turning down an opportunity to trade for Jaylen Brown came to light.

Warriors fans and analysts are now frustrated with the team, as it seems they don't value their aging star player, Stephen Curry. The narrative is that Golden State is making no effort to surround Curry with players who could help him win another title. Despite all the ruckus, the Warriors are reportedly in talks with former San Antonio Spurs big man Kelly Olynyk.

"The Golden State Warriors and free agent big man Kelly Olynyk have been in contact regarding a potential deal," NBA reporter Rob Murrows wrote on X.

While it's good to see the Warriors trying to salvage a wasted opportunity to build a strong team, Olynyk isn't necessarily a player fans will go crazy about.

Having said that, many suggest Curry should request a trade. Former NBA player Kendrick Perkins also recently urged Steph to make his exit soon if he still wants to win in the twilight years of his career.

However, according to several reports, the Warriors have no intention of letting Curry go. Despite playing on an expiring contract, Golden State's front office plans to offer Steph a three-year extension.

NBA insider Brett Siegel also suggested that Curry has no intention of requesting a trade anytime soon.

Insider Claims Warriors Remain Strong Despite Offseason Struggles

One of the biggest challenges for the Golden State Warriors right now is building a contending roster. With the opportunity to sign LeBron James and trade for Jaylen Brown no longer within reach, the Warriors are now running out of options to bring into their roster.

According to Warriors insider Danny Emerman, the team is aware of its situation but will try to make things work heading into the 2026-27 season. While team veterans Stephen Curry and Draymond Green always have the option to leave, they plan to stick with the team that turned them into stars despite its anticipated failure.

"Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Steve Kerr know the Warriors are no longer title contenders and are focused on going out together with dignity," per Emerman.

The Warriors will be heading into the 2026-27 season with the core unit of Curry, Green, Jimmy Butler, and Kristaps Porzingis. The team should also be looking forward to their rookie, Yaxel Lendeborg.

During the NBA Summer League, Lendeborg proved to be the steal of the 2026 draft after winning the Summer League MVP and the Summer League Finals MVP. With his ability to lead a team, the Warriors are looking at a promising young talent who could help the aging veterans on the roster.
