“They Would’ve Went To the Conference Finals”: Jeff Teague Reveals Celtics’ Hypothetical Blockbuster Involving Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry has been heavily rumored to be traded this summer, especially after the Golden State Warriors' poor offseason. They had the opportunity to sign LeBron James in free agency, and apparently, even Jaylen Brown from the Celtics, but neither opportunity was pursued to fruition.

While Curry wasn't exactly part of the potential package for Brown, former NBA star Jeff Teague thinks that should've been the case. In a recent episode of the "Club 520" Podcast, Teague brought up a hypothetical scenario in which Steph was traded for JB. He believes that if Curry went to Boston, the Celtics would easily become strong contenders in the Eastern Conference.

"If you put Steph Curry on the Boston Celtics and trade Jaylen Brown, they would have went to the conference finals," Teague said on the podcast. "I’m not saying he (Brown) ain't hoop (but) it ain't got the same effect as Steph. If you put Steph Curry around a team that’s really trying to win, bro, with some people actually 28 - his whole team is 37. I’m just saying."

There is some truth behind Teague's sentiments. Brown, who led the Celtics to the playoffs but lost to the Philadelphia 76ers in Round 1, is considered one of the top NBA stars today. However, Curry is also still among the elites despite not having won a championship since 2022.

At 38, Curry averaged 26.6 points, 4.7 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.1 steals while shooting 46.8% from the field. His unstoppable long-distance shooting would undoubtedly make the Celtics a scarier team when paired with Jayson Tatum.

But for now, GSW seems highly likely to retain him, contrary to exit speculation.

Stephen Curry Soon Eligible For Extension

Both Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors have clarified that the 17-year veteran doesn't intend to leave the Bay Area anytime soon. Despite many pleading with Curry to leave the Warriors for immediate championship potential elsewhere, it seems that he truly wants to end his career with the Dubs.

Curry's current contract is expiring soon, with only one year remaining. According to NBA insider Brian Windhorst, Steph will be eligible for a contract extension on Aug. 29, potentially signing a two-year deal worth $140 million.

"There are still players becoming contract extension eligible," Windhorst noted on his show reposted by JayTakes on X. "By next week you’ll start to see Steph Curry’s name come up because starting on the 29th of August, he’s extension-eligible for his contract.

"I have argued that it should be considered that Steph not sign his contract extension right now. Of course, if he chooses to sign right now, he could get two years at $140 million."

Windhorst further revealed that if Curry decides to postpone signing an extension to next year, the Warriors will have over $100 million in salary cap space to offer. It might be safe to say that the four-time NBA champion will stay with the team, especially considering that earlier this month on the TK Show, GSW team owner Joe Lacob explicitly called the Curry trade rumors "clickbait."
