Stephen Curry is set to enter his 18th NBA season with the Golden State Warriors. Despite proving his loyalty to the team, one of the biggest concerns fans have about him is the fact that he has yet to sign an extension with the Warriors. As of this writing, Steph only has one year remaining on his contract. This has led to a plethora of rumors that he will leave the team soon.

Another reason some have drawn comparisons between Curry’s situation and LeBron James’ final season with the Los Angeles Lakers is how James handled his contract. James chose not to sign an extension with the Lakers and ultimately joined the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this summer.

That naturally fueled speculation about whether Curry could eventually take a similar path. However, Warriors fans recently received some reassurance when Curry made it clear that he plans to remain in the Bay Area.

"I've always stated that I wanna be a lifer with Golden State," Curry said in an interview with CNBC Television. "What we've built there, the fact that I get to run it back this year with Draymond and Coach Kerr."

"All the contract stuff is this NBA thing from year to year; it's so crazy things change really fast," Curry added. "But I do know my interest and mission to stay in Golden State and be competitive is there, and the contract stuff will take care of itself."

According to multiple reports, Curry has yet to sign an extension, but he is eligible for a two-year, $136.7 million deal that would keep him under contract through June 30, 2027. That gives Curry until then to consider the Warriors’ offer and decide what comes next.

There is also the possibility that Curry could be keeping his plans to retire after the upcoming season private. Nothing has been decided yet, though.

For now, Curry’s focus remains on the 2026-27 season as he prepares for his 18th year in the NBA. How that season unfolds could help shape what comes next for the Warriors star.

Former NBA Champion Urges Warriors to Convince Stephen Curry to Extend Contract

The Golden State Warriors are in quite a pickle this summer. Aside from failing to bring in notable stars like LeBron James and Jaylen Brown earlier this summer, one of their biggest questions right now is whether Stephen Curry will remain with the Warriors after this season.

Former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins recently urged Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy to do everything in his power to convince Steph to sign the two-year extension the organization offered him.

"The Warriors don't have the option to wait on nothing when it comes to Steph Curry," Perkins said on NBA Today. "Steph Curry is the greatest Bay Area player... Loyalty in today's game, you don't see that from players. The fact that Steph Curry has been riding with them over the last three or four years, knowing that he wants to win a championship, to me, what this interview said to me is, Mike Dunleavy, you have to do your d*mn job."

For now, all Warriors fans can do is wait and see how the organization will go about Curry's contract situation.
