Rich Paul Addresses Draymond Green's Warriors Exit Rumors to Join LeBron James

For a brief moment this offseason, fans thought LeBron James might go to the Golden State Warriors. Had it happened, he finally would have teamed up with Stephen Curry and his close friend Draymond Green.

While they didn't end up on the same team, some believed there was still a chance for two of them to play together. After James signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, rumors began circulating that Green might sign there, too.

These rumors were finally quashed by their own agent, Rich Paul, on the latest episode of 'Game Over.'

Max Kellerman, his co-host, prompted him to address the rumor by asking whether there was ever a chance they'd team up outside Golden State.

"No man, that was all false," Paul said, denying it completely. "All that stuff was false. If [Green] was gonna meet-up with LeBron, it was gonna be on the Golden State Warriors."

Green did his part in trying to get James to the Warriors. On June 29, he declined his $27.7 million player option to become a free agent, giving Golden State more flexibility to pursue roster moves.

While he was still a free agent, he admitted he had tried to recruit James. He shared on his podcast that while the two of them were golfing together on holiday, he delivered a "crazy" pitch to recruit James.

Of course, it did not pan out. On July 24, James announced on social media that he was signing with the Sixers.

After James signed, Green remained a free agent for a while. His not immediately re-signing with the Warriors fueled the speculation that the two might team up in Philadelphia.

Eventually, a few days after James' decision, Green signed a one-year, $27.7 million contract to remain with Golden State.

Rich Paul Explained Why the San Antonio Spurs Were Not On LeBron James' Mind

When LeBron James announced that he was leaving the Los Angeles Lakers, several teams jumped out as potential destinations.

One of those squads was the San Antonio Spurs. On paper, the Spurs were a good fit for James. They had a young core that had just made the NBA Finals but lacked true veteran leaders who could play meaningful minutes.

However, it became clear rather early that they were not among the teams under consideration.

One curious fan wanted to know why, so he asked Rich Paul. The question was asked during Game Over's segment, wherein they answered fan inquiries.

The fan pointed out that the Spurs had a roster clearly built to contend, but had a glaring hole at power forward. Additionally, going there would have allowed James to mentor Victor Wembanyama.

Paul replied by saying that the Spurs were in the same boat as the New York Knicks. While they did not win the title, they were last season's runner-ups.

If James had joined them, it would have messed with their dynamic and the development of their young core. Specifically, he said that Wemby's growth and his status as the face of the Spurs franchise needed to be respected.

Later, he also added that while joining the Spurs might have resulted in a title, James would not have earned it in the way he wanted to.
