Stephen Curry Reveals if He Got a Wedding Invitation From Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s marriage has been one of the biggest crossovers between pop culture and sports in recent years, and their wedding, which took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City, was under the microscope. NBA fans, in particular, wanted to know whether any players were invited to the iconic venue for the ceremony. The Knicks, who won the championship this year, were not, as Josh Hart revealed in a text. But what about the GOATs? More specifically, was Stephen Curry invited? The Warriors superstar revealed the answer in a recent interview.
"Nice to have friends in all different types of places, but that invite didn’t come my way," Curry said when asked if he received an invite from Swift and Kelce.
While there were no active NBA players in attendance at Kelce and Swift’s wedding, some members of Kobe Bryant’s family were present. Bryant’s wife, Vanessa Bryant, and daughter, Natalia Bryant, were reportedly invited and attended the wedding. Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was also at Madison Square Garden and even praised actor Adam Sandler for his performance.
Sandler officiated the couple’s wedding ceremony last Friday. His blend of comedy and heartfelt moments both entertained and touched the hearts of Kelce and Swift’s 1,000 guests. So, it comes as little surprise that Curry was not among them.
There have been no reports of the Warriors legend being particularly close to either Swift or Kelce, even though Curry has crossed paths with the Chiefs’ tight end at golf tournaments in the past. But a wedding guest list can only be so big. As two of the country’s biggest celebrities, they simply can’t invite everyone they’ve ever met. Curry surely understands that, and quite possibly, did not expect an invite to the wedding either.
The reporter then brought up the possibility of LeBron James joining the Warriors next season, a question that seems to be on every NBA fan’s mind. Curry, however, remained cryptic about the situation.
"That'll handle itself," Curry's response to the James rumors.
James announced earlier this year that he would leave the Lakers after spending eight years in Los Angeles. The Warriors have since emerged as one of the teams most heavily linked with the four-time MVP, who also was not at the Swift-Kelce wedding. Would he and Curry have flown to New York had they been invited? We’ll never know. But Suns legend Charles Barkley, who did receive an invitation, chose to sit it out.
Why didn't Barkley attend the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce wedding
Chuck told NBC Sports Philadelphia that the newlyweds had sent him an invitation. However, Barkley politely declined, explaining that he isn’t the type to attend formal events like that. He also admitted that he dreaded the idea of dressing up for the occasion.
"I don't go to weddings. But I did get an invite, and I politely declined… I love Travis and Jason (Kelce), and I've only met Taylor one time, " he said during the interview. "Yeah, I did get an invite, but I said, 'Hey, you know what? That's just too much.
"I just want to hang out and play golf. I don't want to dress up and all that other stuff.' But I appreciate the invitation. It was pretty special," the Hall of Famer added.
Now that Kelce and Swift are married, it’ll be interesting to see how their dynamic as NBA fans evolves. During last season’s playoffs, the couple was seen supporting two different teams: the New York Knicks and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Swift is one of the Knicks’ biggest celebrity fans. Meanwhile, Kelce is a die-hard supporter of his hometown Cavaliers. Because of that, the two attended each other’s games during the Eastern Conference Finals. Swift’s side came out on top, sweeping the Cavaliers 4-0 to reach the NBA Finals.
With the wedding over, Swift and Kelce can now get back to cheering for their favorite teams. And if the Knicks and Cavaliers meet again in next year’s playoffs, fans can expect to see the couple on opposite sides once more.
