Joel Embiid is having an exciting off-season while remaining healthy. From playing a key role in convincing LeBron James to sending a strong message to the Philadelphia fans, he is preparing for the upcoming NBA season in the best way possible.
The Philadelphia 76ers are assembling an exciting roster, including the likes of LeBron, Jaylen Brown, and Embiid himself; fans can barely wait for the start of the regular season in October. Embiid's recent post on X echoed similar energy.
"I have a GOOD feeling about October…. The playoffs are gonna be FUN!!!!" Embiid wrote on X.
While many fans believed it was about the NBA regular season months away, a few deduced it was about the Philadelphia Phillies of MLB.
Embiid posted on X in response to the Phillies' heartbreaking 8-7 walk-off loss to the Miami Marlins on Monday. Despite losing to the Marlins on a franchise-high 12-game losing streak, Embiid was hopeful about the Phillies' chances.
They are second in the National League East with a 57-50 record behind the Atlanta Braves. With Zack Wheeler and Cristopher Sanchez calling the shots, heavy hitters Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber are leading the turnaround after a mid-season blip.
The focus, as Embiid emphasized, will now turn towards "October Baseball." They will be sure of a playoff spot either as the league champions or the NL Wild Card team. And that is what excites Embiid about the team's chances.
After back-to-back NL Division season exits, there is pressure on the Phillies to have a deep run. Their last title in 2008 seems like a distant memory; interim manager Don Mattingly will be eager to take his team to the promised land.
Embiid's message in that regard will echo with thousands of Philadelphia fans in the NBA and the MLB.
Embiid's crucial role in convincing LeBron James
LeBron James could have almost picked any franchise in the East, as he even contemplated hanging up his kicks. But the decision to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers threw the entire league into a tailspin. Many reports later revealed the heroic convincing it took from the players and coaches to bring LeBron to the Xfinity Mobile Arena.
ESPN's Shams Charania confirmed LeBron James and Joel Embiid met privately in Los Angeles for nearly two hours. LeBron was reported to have asked about Embiid's health.
Embiid supposedly revealed this was the first summer of his career without any surgeries and that he was locked in for the upcoming season. That conversation stayed with LeBron, as he was never in doubt of Embiid's ability, having won a gold medal together at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
It was also revealed that Tyrese Maxey was involved in talks with LeBron, and as Jaylen Brown arrived on a shock trade, the four-time MVP needed no special reason to pick the 76ers for his final championship run.
There are expectations on this 76ers team, and a few are even dubbing it a superteam. The success of this team with Embiid and LeBron will certainly stand as a testament to that.
