Despite the Golden State Warriors beginning their season with a 1-3 record, the fans’ support hasn’t wavered. But if it ever comes down to it, as it did for the Denver Nuggets last Saturday, Draymond Green would be the first person to reiterate Nuggets star Nikola Jokic’s point.

“I agreed with Jokic when he said they don’t need to come no more,” the Warriors star stated on his The Draymond Green Show podcast recently. “Why are you here? Like you’re really not on our side if you start booing us this fast. Like you’ve come in here with a predetermined mindset already. And if you’ve come in here with a predetermined mindset, that mindset for you to be booing us is very pessimistic. It’s very negative.”

The “baffling” part for Green was that the Nuggets fans did it in the team’s first home opener game, where Jokic and the crew fell 73-57 to the New Orleans Pelicans at halftime. However, Jokic didn’t hold back after the team managed a 23-point comeback to defeat the Pelicans 141-135 in overtime.

“We get booed in the first home game. I think those fans who booed us, they don’t need to come anymore,” Jokić said. “Because if you guys follow us, you know that we never quit and we came back from much worse or similar situations. If they ask me, they are not welcome anymore.”

By no means would Green disagree that fans keep the sport going and that players have immense love for them. But these incidents of them getting “carried away” about the teams or players they claim to support aren’t really new.

After all, the same thing happened during the Philadelphia 76ers home opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers on October 22, 2026. A dissatisfied crowd of fans booed as the Sixers committed 15 first-half turnovers and trailed the Cavs 45-69 by halftime. However, a dramatic 29-point comeback and a 114-106 victory quickly turned the booing into cheers.

While condemnation and praise go hand in hand in the world of sports and keep the fire going, giving up on the team one claims to support is just not the way to go about it. Jokic said it and meant it, and Green reiterated: if the fans tend to be that pessimistic, they should much rather skip attending games.

“Listen, we all love the fans. Fans are great. Our game does not move forward without fans. But … the fact that you be booing your team … in the first home game of the season … Stay your(self) at home,” he added to the same podcast. “I agree with Jokic on this, and it looked like he was (serious). I hear people in the background laughing. He is not laughing. He is dead serious.”

Some things just go beyond teams and players, and this was Green’s way of checking in with the Dub Nation. It’s about time they take a mental note of this, if they haven’t already.
