“Bullsh*t Deals”: Ex-Warriors Star Slams Jonathan Kuminga’s Timberwolves Move

Jonathan Kuminga reportedly sat on a five-year, $75.2 million extension offer from the Golden State Warriors. He then turned it down and forced his way out. Now, after moving from Golden State to Atlanta to Minnesota, he's settled for a fraction of that money, and it's brought out a harsh reaction from an unlikely source: an ex-Warriors star himself.

Speaking on his show Gil's Arena, former Golden State guard Gilbert Arenas ripped into Kuminga's decision to sign a two-year, $12.4 million contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves this offseason.

"There's no way [Kuminga] should be signing these bullsh*t deals!" Arenas said in the X clip. He made it clear that he views the contract as a massive misstep rather than a bet on himself.

Arenas didn't stop at one jab in the X video. In an earlier post, he reacted to the same signing, he mocked the number outright.

"This man just signed a podcast deal," he wrote, before jokingly offering to give Kuminga a better contract himself and inviting him to co-host "Kuminga Arena."

He compared the deal to outdated, team-friendly contracts from a bygone era.

"If we had known you were selling a– this low, one of them 1980 contracts, 10 years, $10 million, you would have been signed a long time ago. Who is your agent?" he asked.

Kuminga will reportedly earn just $6 million in the first season of the deal. He rejected a three-year offer worth more than $12 million annually from the Lakers, along with interest from the Bulls and Trail Blazers.

Arenas has since escalated the criticism well past a simple contract complaint. He cited the NBA's recent ruling that found the Clippers and Kawhi Leonard guilty of salary-cap circumvention.

The former point guard suggested Kuminga's below-market deal deserved similar scrutiny. He framed the situation as something closer to a financial mystery than a normal free-agency letdown.

"Every year that you don't take the deal that you originally had, that money would have been in your pocket already," Arenas said.

He argued that even if Kuminga eventually lands a five-year, $150 million contract next summer, the gap created by two below-market seasons in between is a loss no future payday can fully erase.

Kuminga and his camp have defended the move as a calculated bet on fit and opportunity. He pointed to a starting role alongside Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball as justification for prioritizing "winning culture" over guaranteed money.

Arenas isn't buying it, and given how loudly he's kept the criticism going since the ink dried, it doesn't look like he plans to let the contract fade quietly into the background of a busy NBA offseason.
