Klay Thompson Sending “Bat Signal” to Miami After Expressing Championship Desire, Per Analyst

Klay Thompson’s Instagram activity fueled a wave of speculation that he wanted a Lakers reunion. He reacted to a fan-made highlight video with “What my dreams look like on a consistent basis.” Now, according to one analyst, Thompson’s latest public comments are pointing toward an entirely different destination.

Brendon Tobin argued that Thompson used a recent livestream to send a clear message to a specific franchise.

“The bat signal was sent out by Klay Thompson,” Tobin said (h/t) The Heat Realm. “Everything that he was spouting off on this stream — I gotta be honest with you, it felt like to me he was basically sending the bat signal to the Miami Heat, like, ‘Hey, come get me, come get me. I want to find a place on this ride.’”

Tobin’s take is that Thompson didn’t come out and ask Miami for a trade. But everything about how he talked through his championship aspirations on the stream, combined with his current situation, can be seen as a signal to a front office paying attention.

The Heat have been floated as a real suitor for Thompson for weeks, alongside the Lakers, as Dallas has continued exploring trade options for him rather than pursuing a buyout. Miami, after trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason, has been searching for outside shooting to space the floor around their new star, and Thompson remains one of the most accomplished movement shooters of his generation, even coming off a poor statistical season.

Reports have also noted Miami’s interest intensifying specifically because of the shooting need created by the Antetokounmpo trade, giving Thompson’s stream comments extra weight if Tobin’s read on them is accurate.

A Player Publicly Wrestling With What’s Next

Klay Thompson is entering the final season of the three-year, $50 million deal he signed with Dallas in 2024. A contract he chose over a larger Lakers offer at the time. Last season was rough by his standards, with career lows across the board, and the Mavericks have already tested the trade market for him without landing a deal.

Between his father Mychal Thompson’s public lobbying for the Lakers, his own cryptic Instagram activity, and now Tobin’s take on his livestream comments pointing toward Miami instead.

Klay Thompson’s actual preference remains genuinely unclear, but the pattern, whichever direction they’re pointing, suggests a player increasingly open about wanting a change before this season begins.
