Warriors Have a Surprise Anthony Davis Plan to Lure LeBron James in NBA Free Agency, Per Reports

Golden State has been linked to LeBron James rumors for a few weeks now, giving fans the mouth-watering thought of The King teaming up with Chef Curry. And according to several reports, the Warriors, not wanting to waste an opportunity like this, are bringing everything they can to the table.
Golden State could target Washington Wizards big man Anthony Davis via trade as a bargaining chip to convince James to join the team.
"Many have speculated if Golden State will try to acquire Washington Wizards center Anthony Davis in order to convince James of leaving Los Angeles for the Bay Area," Mack Baltes of USA Today wrote.
Bleacher Report's Grant Hughes also ranked the Warriors as Davis' top trade destination if the Wizards decide to let him go.
While nothing has been confirmed yet, the idea isn't as far-fetched as it seems. Warriors star Stephen Curry has previously hinted at interest in playing with James, especially after their Gold medal run at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
"All the battles we've had on the court and the back and forth, the fact that we actually got to be teammates, not just in any game like an All-Star Game or whatever, but in high-stakes basketball with a lot on the line… I think there's a deepened respect and friendship there. Hopefully, there will be more experiences in the future, teammates or not," Curry said to PEOPLE magazine.
The feeling was mutual for James, which could mean that the Warriors might not have a difficult time convincing the King.
However, the biggest issue the Warriors have right now is money. James previously stated that he's not willing to take a pay cut and will only play for a team who could pay him his desired sum. As of now, the Warriors' best offer would be the non-taxpayer mid-level exception, which projects to about $15.1 million.
Unless the Warriors could convince James to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers and offer them a trade, it's difficult to see the King agree to a $15.1 million deal. That's if Curry can't come up with a convincing argument to reel in LeBron to the Bay Area. Steph is rumored to meet up with Bron sometime this June in hopes of talking him into joining the Warriors.
LeBron James' Agent Clears All Rumors Regarding His Future
Where James will play when the 2026 season tips off, or whether he will play at all, remains anyone's guess. Other than the Warriors, there have also been rumors of him re-signing with the Lakers and spending one final year in purple and gold.
Yes, there are issues for James in Los Angeles. He's no longer the main man, with the organization now focused on its future with Luka Doncic as the cornerstone and Austin Reaves as the No. 2 option. But for James, there may not be many better places to compete for one final ring.
Then there's the possibility of a move to the East to reunite with Cleveland, which won the only championship in franchise history with James at the helm in 2016.
While all these possibilities sound promising, James' agent, Rich Paul, stated that people shouldn't be quick to believe whatever news they see regarding James' future. As of now, LeBron has yet to make a decision, and Paul would like everyone to respect his time as he continues to enjoy his family vacation.
"Believe nothing that's out there because I haven't had one conversation with him," Paul said on The Pat McAfee Show regarding the LeBron rumors.
"At the end of the season, I made it clear that I would respect him and the family because this is going to be a family decision for him. ... Whatever decision he decides to make, that is his decision.
He doesn't need to make a decision for anybody but himself. .. There's been no conversation. I have not had one conversation with him."
As of this writing, James has yet to break his silence regarding his future. For now, all we can do is wait until he makes his decision.
