Just ahead of the February 2026 trade deadline, Anthony Davis was dealt to the Washington Wizards. However, he has yet to suit up for the franchise, as he's been recovering from ligament damage in his left hand that he suffered during his time with the Dallas Mavericks. If the rumors are true, he may never play a game for Washington at all.

Speculation about a return to the Western Conference has continued to grow after reports emerged that his agent, Rich Paul, met with the Wizards' front office to discuss Davis' future.

NBA Insider Brian Windhorst spoke about this meeting on 'Get Up.' Per him, the two camps met to discuss the possibility of a contract extension.

He clarified that he did not know how the meeting went, which could further fuel speculation about Davis' future.

Davis is in the second year of a 3-year, $175 million deal. Next season, he can choose to enter free agency or remain with whatever team he's on due to a player option. However, he also becomes eligible to sign an extension on August 6.

One thing worth noting, though, is that per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, a trade would make him ineligible to sign that extension.

If he does get traded, whether to the Warriors or elsewhere, the team receiving him must wait a full six months before discussing a max extension. On the other hand, if he signs a 4-year extension on August 6, he cannot be traded for six months.

Since the details of Paul's meeting with the Wizards were not revealed, one can speculate that their discussion was about his refusing to sign an extension.

If he does want to be traded, Davis' camp can simply say he won't sign an extension and will decline his player option for next year. Doing so sets him up for a rumored reunion with LeBron James.

Anthony Davis Might Reunite With LeBron James in the Bay Area

Fans expected Draymond Green to pick up his player option worth more than $27 million for next season. Instead, he surprised many by declining it.

That move gives the Warriors greater flexibility to create a veteran 'Big 4' this summer in pursuit of another championship. Despite declining his option, Green is still expected to be part of that squad. He is likely to remain in Golden State, but on a new deal worth less money.

Of course, Stephen Curry is another member of this hypothetical four-man dream team. He isn't set to become a free agent until 2027-28, and there's virtually no scenario in which the Warriors would trade him for another star.

So who are the other two joining Curry and Green? LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

James is an unrestricted free agent, and there's a growing belief around the league that he won't re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

As for Davis, the Warriors could build a trade package around Jimmy Butler and several draft picks. However, considering Butler's age and his ongoing recovery from an ACL injury, the Wizards could demand far more than just a couple of first-round picks and pick swaps.
