The Miami Heat finally have their first win of the Giannis Antetokounmpo era. Now the question is whether one more big move could turn them into the contender they were built to be, and Kyrie Irving’s name keeps coming up.

ESPN’s Shams Charania said on The Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday that the Heat will likely keep an eye on Irving’s situation in Dallas. He also explained why getting him won’t be simple.

“They are going to be monitoring Kyrie Irving,” said Charania, as per an X clip posted by Heat Central on October 29, 2026. “The question is, if you’re Miami, what can you give for Kyrie Irving? You already traded away three first-round picks, a swap and other assets to go get Giannis Antetokounmpo. So, what can you trade? Right now, I believe they have one first-round pick eligible to be traded. Is that enough to get Kyrie Irving? My sense is probably not. I think the price would be higher than that.”

So, in other words, the pick that Miami has will not get it done. If the Heat want to get Irving, they'll have to put some players in as well, and according to Charania, they might be competing with fellow contenders as well.

Miami’s biggest weakness through five games has been at point guard, and Irving would fix that. He’s a nine-time All-Star, a three-time All-NBA selection, a 2016 champion and the 2014 All-Star Game MVP. He’s also back on the court after tearing his ACL on March 3, 2025, which kept him out all of last season. He helped Dallas beat Miami on Monday.

Considering that the Heat can do well with a Big 3 of Bam Adebayo, Antetokounmpo, and Irving, Andrew Wiggins and Davion Mitchell can be options to look at. As per Heavy’s Joey Haverford, Mitchell, who’s averaging 16.4 points and 7.6 assists so far, could contribute to the Mavs’ young core centred around Cooper Flaggs.

Wiggins, on the other hand, “makes sense as the majority of the salary needed to match Kyrie’s financial numbers for NBA salary cap trade rules,” wrote Haverford. Pelle Larsson and Nikola Jovic can also be considered prospects. Since Charania believed that one first-round pick would not be enough to land Irving, and the “price would be higher than that,” a whole trade package consisting of Mitchell and Wiggins could do.

However, that will surely be a bold move considering the current Heat roster around Antetokounmpo has already created a state of anxiety over Miami. Haverford also agreed that in a powerful Eastern Conference, any more loss can cost the team badly.

However, things looked better for Miami against the Atlanta Hawks as they beat them 129-117 for its first win after an 0-4 start. Antetokounmpo had 24 points and 18 rebounds, and Bam Adebayo added 24 points and nine rebounds while passing Udonis Haslem as the Heat’s all-time leading rebounder.

It was a good night for Adebayo after a rough start to the season. This is the same player who scored 83 points against Washington last March, second only to Wilt Chamberlain’s 100 in NBA history.

Antetokounmpo is averaging 27.6 points, 11.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists through five games. If he and Adebayo keep playing like they did in Atlanta, the Heat may not need to look for a trade.

But if the season doesn't get back on track, Pat Riley will have a decision to make, and he’ll have to figure out what he can afford to give up first.
