De’Aaron Fox Injury Update Turns Bad News for Victor Wembanyama & Spurs Ahead of WCF Game 2

The San Antonio Spurs are set to face off against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 2 on Wednesday. Coming into the game, it appears that the Spurs will once again be without De'Aaron Fox by their side. Fox has yet to play a game in the Western Conference Finals.

According to prominent NBA insider Shams Charania, Fox has been ruled out of Game 2. This is due to his right high ankle sprain.

"Spurs' De'Aaron Fox is expected to miss his second consecutive contest in Game 2 tonight against the Oklahoma City Thunder due to a right high ankle sprain," Charania wrote on X.

Fox initially sprained his ankle during their second-round matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He sustained the injury in Game 4 when Timberwolves guard Ayo Dosunmu landed on his leg while diving for a loose ball.

Fox managed to play through the injury, helping Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs secure a 4-2 series victory. Unfortunately for him, it resulted in persistent soreness, forcing him to sit out Game 1 on Monday.

The good news is that Fox was spotted shooting with his teammates during the pre-game warmup. This indicates that he's close to full recovery.

Having that in mind, there's a huge possibility that he could make his return in Game 3.

Can Victor Wembanyama Win Game 2 Without De'Aaron Fox?

It's no secret that De'Aaron Fox has been a good combo for Victor Wembanyama. Fox has a knack for setting up his teammates. Fortunately for him, setting up Wemby is the easiest job in the world. Standing at 7'4", Fox could easily throw up passes to Wemby without worrying about his opponents intercepting.

However, without his trusted point guard on the floor with him, is Wembanyama still capable of easily getting to his spots?

Looking at Game 1, Wembanyama proved why he's the future GOAT of the league. While the Oklahoma City Thunder proved earlier on why they were the defending champions, Wemby rallied the San Antonio Spurs back in the game, forcing two overtime periods.

His most notable shot was when he knocked down a huge 3-point bomb near the logo to send the game to double overtime. Ultimately, he secured a 122-115 victory for the Spurs, adding 41 points, 24 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

If Wembanyama can somehow channel the same energy he mustered in Game 1, there's a huge possibility that he could lead San Antonio to another victory in Game 2.

But if the Spurs do end up losing, the good news is that Game 3 will be held at San Antonio. This will be the perfect time for Fox's return on the hardwood. Not only will they have home court advantage, but they will also have the explosive duo of Fox and Wemby on the floor again.
