Pacers’ Bennedict Mathurin to have season-ending surgery

Indiana Pacers shooting guard Bennedict Mathurin will be out for the rest of the season as he undergoes surgery to repair the torn labrum on his right shoulder, the team announced on Saturday.

This is a big loss for the Pacers, who are currently in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race.

As of this writing, Indiana has a 36-29 record, good for seventh place in the East.

Mathurin, who was named the Rising Stars MVP during NBA All-Star Weekend last month, was averaging 14.5 points per game for the best-rated offense in the league.
