Plum to LA, Loyd to Las Vegas: Blockbuster three team trade reshapes WNBA landscape

In a significant move, the WNBA has witnessed a major three-team trade involving the Las Vegas Aces, Seattle Storm, and Los Angeles Sparks. The trade, effective February 1, 2025, sees six-time All-Star Jewell Loyd joining the Aces, three-time All-Star Kelsey Plum heading to the Sparks, and the Storm acquiring center Li Yueru along with the No. 2 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft.

**Trade Details:**

- **Las Vegas Aces Receive:**

  - Jewell Loyd

- **Los Angeles Sparks Receive:**

  - Kelsey Plum

  - No. 9 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft

- **Seattle Storm Receive:**

  - Li Yueru

  - No. 2 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft

  - First-round pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft

This trade marks the first instance where two former No. 1 overall draft picks have been exchanged in the same transaction. Loyd, who spent a decade with the Storm, secured two WNBA championships and earned the 2023 scoring title. She now joins an Aces roster that has clinched two of the last three WNBA titles, forming a formidable trio with A'ja Wilson and Jackie Young.

Kelsey Plum, averaging 17.8 points and 4.2 assists last season, is anticipated to take on a leadership role with the Sparks, complementing a youthful core and reuniting with former teammate Dearica Hamby. The Storm, entering a rebuilding phase after key player departures, benefit from enhanced draft positions and the addition of Yueru to strengthen their frontcourt.

This strategic maneuver is poised to significantly influence the competitive dynamics of the upcoming WNBA season.
