Chris Webber on his NBA career, move to broadcasting, Fab Five, more

On today's episode of "The Rematch," Etan Thomas is joined by former No. 1 overall pick and five-time NBA All-Star Chris Webber to talk about his transition from player to broadcaster, the influence of the Fab Five, whether the group will ever get back together, being vilified by the media early in his playing career, his upcoming documentary, his new book (By God's Grace) and more. Time-stamps are below!

2:20: Etan talks about how he was a huge fan of Chris growing up. He also loves his current media work and they discuss the transition from playing to broadcasting.

7:00: In addition to his regular commentary, Chris talks about trying to highlight positive things that players are doing in the community and trying to remove certain stigmas.

10:15: As a high-school player, Etan learned about how the NCAA exploits student-athletes by reading The Fab Five: Basketball, Trash-Talk, The American Dream. Chris talks about how the Fab Five became more aware of the exploitation as sophomores and how it opened the eyes of other athletes.

12:15: Chris tells the story of the first time he saw his jersey on sale at the University of Michigan, just moments after he couldn't afford food at Subway.

15:50: Etan and Chris talk about how the NCAA has handled COVID-19.

25:30: Chris works with many top high-school recruits and their families to make sure they have guidance and aren't being exploited. He also shouts out Ed O'Bannon, Bill Russell and others who are looking out for young players.

27:40: Etan and Chris talk about why student-athletes should be paid (or receive some kind of benefits). They also discuss how there's no such thing as a four-year scholarship.

34:00: Chris shares a story about the time he was pulled over and pepper-sprayed by police in DC while playing for the Washington Wizards. After this incident, he started a scholarship for Black law students and he's helped more than 20 people become lawyers.

43:05: Chris discusses how the media tried to vilify him when he was young (especially after his incident with the DC police).

53:30: Chris discusses his upcoming documentary that he's been working on with Peter Gilbert (who was one of the filmmakers behind Hoop Dreams) as well as his new book (By God's Grace). Chris said that writing his book is the hardest thing he's ever done.

59:30: In the book, Chris discusses his experience in the NBA bubble and what happened behind the scenes when the Milwaukee Bucks decided to boycott their playoff game following the shooting of Jacob Blake.

1:01:35: Will we see a Fab Five reunion at some point in the future?

1:03:00: Chris discusses who would've won: the Fab Five or the 1990-91 UNLV Runnin' Rebels (which was Chris' favorite team when he was growing up).

1:06:00: Were the Sacramento Kings robbed of a championship in 2001-02? Chris discusses that Game 6 and the crazy foul disparity. Chris also mentions that he spoke to Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal about that night and those conversations are included in his upcoming book.

1:11:25: Which move during this NBA free-agency period surprised Chris the most?

1:12:50: Did the Los Angeles Lakers make a mistake by not bringing back Dwight Howard and/or JaVale McGee? Chris thinks the Lakers drastically improved, but Etan isn't so sure.

1:16:40: Chris talks about the comments he made after the Bucks decided to boycott their playoff game.
