Shams: Portland may pursue Jerami Grant this upcoming offseason

The Portland Trail Blazers are expected to seriously pursue Pistons forward Jerami Grant in the offseason, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

"Armed with the Pelicans’ 2022 first-round draft selection, the Trail Blazers will explore offering the pick should it fall between Nos. 5 and 14 in the June draft," Charania said. "If the pick does not fall in that range and convey to Portland this offseason, the organization’s package falls behind competing teams that are chasing Detroit’s versatile forward."

ANALYSIS: Portland is in a unique predicament this offseason to say the least. Even though they've punted on this season, it appears more likely than not they're opting for re-tooling instead of rebuilding. Grant is a nice piece to have, but, though he would improve their putrid defense, he's not much of a game-changer for them. If they want Damian Lillard's prime to count for something, they must have more plans in store besides potentially acquiring Jerami Grant.
