Michael Carter-Williams to miss start of 2021-22 season due to ankle surgery

Orlando Magic guard Michael Carter-Williams underwent surgery yesterday (August 23) to remove a bone fragment and to repair a ligament in his left ankle, President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman announced today. He will miss the start of the 2021-22 regular season and his return to basketball activities will depend on how he responds to treatment and rehabilitation. Carter-Williams is expected to make a full recovery.

ANALYSIS: Carter-Williams was initially signed as a free agent in March 2019. He started in 25 games for Orlando last season and averaged 8.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game in 31 total 2020-21 contests. The Magic have a deep guard rotation headlined by young talents in Jalen Suggs, R.J. Hampton, Cole Anthony and Markelle Fultz.
