Jamahl Mosley expected to leave Mavericks after Jason Kidd hiring

It’s expected Mosley will depart the franchise, sources say, after failing to receive the serious consideration he anticipated for the vacant coaching role.

ANALYSIS: According to Cato, Mosley had a close relationship to Doncic, and though Doncic also has a good relationship with Jason Kidd, Cato hinted that Mosley may not have had the same chances at the Mavericks' head coaching position:

"Doncic has specifically avoided meddling in the front office decision-making, and hiring Mosley was never seen as necessary just because Doncic preferred him to Carlisle," Cato wrote. "However, it’s clear Kidd didn’t beat out Mosley as much as he was whisked past him in a preferred lane."

Cato also added that some viewed the Kidd hiring as necessary to also bring aboard new franchise general manager Nico Harrison.

"Those making these decisions viewed him as such, independent from any other hiring, although one league source believes it was necessary for the team to pursue both simultaneously to win over Harrison," Cato said in the article.

The Mavericks reportedly agreed to terms for Kidd to be the franchise's next head coach, and Harrison to be GM, on Thursday. Mosley has been an assistant coach with the team since 2014.
