Clippers head coach Ty Lue confirmed the development to Charania on Thursday night. According to the report, both the Clippers and Leonard are in the midst of a rehab process for the two-time NBA Finals MVP that is aimed at bringing sustainability for him on the court through the season.&nbsp;
ANALYSIS: Leonard notably did not play in Team USA&rsquo;s Olympic run in Paris due to the same knee issue and rehabilitation. Leonard already participated in Team USA&rsquo;s practices in Las Vegas but was pulled out of the lineup days before they were slated to fly to Abu Dhabi for Team USA&rsquo;s Basketball Showcase.
Now, the same injury and knee rehabilitation will force Leonard to be out for the foreseeable future in his mother club Clippers.&nbsp;

The 7&rsquo;0 Zubac averaged a career-high 11.7 points and 9.2 rebounds for the Clippers &ndash; including 16.2 points in their Western Conference playoff series loss to the Mavericks.
After starting his NBA career with the Lakers, Zubac has played the last 6 seasons with the Clippers, being their starting center for the majority of his time there. Zubac has played 390 games with the team, starting 348 of them. He has career averages of 10 points and 8.4 rebounds with the Clippers and 11.7 and 9.2 rebounds overall for his career.
ANALYSIS: The 27-year-old Zubac figures out to be featured in a more prominent role on offense as he enters his prime years. The 33-year-old George was clutch in the fourth quarter, catching fire to seal the game against the Thunder. He put up 18 points in the fourth quarter alone.
"I know what I'm capable of. I know what I can do in this league..." George said. "Honestly, I'm just committed to winning and that's it."
The 6-foot-8 forward&rsquo;s huge fourth quarter was capped off by a scintillating sequence that cause the Los Angeles crowd to erupt. He drained a three over Lu Dort and shimmied his way back on defense. Gilgeous-Alexander, who will always be linked to George since he was the centerpiece of the deal between the Clippers and Thunder in 2019, struggled with just 19 points on 6-of-16 from the field.  Immediately after acquiring star guard James Harden, the Clippers lost seven of 10 games, leading to some questions about Harden's fit and whether the team could right the ship.
However, since Harden&rsquo;s infamous &ldquo;give us 10 games and we&rsquo;ll figure it out&rdquo; statement, the Clippers have been one of the hottest teams in the NBA. They have the best record in the NBA since Dec. 1, and they have won 15 of their last 18 games and 20 of their last 26.&nbsp;
Los Angeles has the fourth-best record in the Western Conference (23-13), while boasting the NBA's seventh-best offense (scoring 116 points per 100 possessions) and ninth-best defense (allowing 110.4 points per 100 possessions).
The Clippers have been rolling as of late, and here are several reasons for their recent success.
Kawhi Leonard is healthy again and having an MVP-caliber season
The Clippers&rsquo; undisputed best player is currently having his healthiest season in years, playing 31-of-35 possible games. Leonard is currently shooting a career-best 52% from the field and is the biggest reason for Los Angeles' surge. The Clippers have registered 12-straight wins with Leonard in the lineup, and he ranks 10th in the league in scoring over that stretch. Leonard's numbers &ndash; 28.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists &ndash; are impressive, and he recently became the first player in NBA history to shoot 60% from the field, 50% from three-point range and 90% from the free-throw line over a 13-game span &ndash; an astounding demonstration of his dominance and efficiency this season.
Paul George is playing as a second &lsquo;Batman&rsquo; rather than being a &lsquo;Robin&rsquo;
Rather than being Robin to Leonard&rsquo;s Batman, Paul George has proven he&rsquo;s more than just a second fiddle this season. The 6-foot-9 forward has a solid All-Star case so far, averaging 23.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 3.4 threes and 1.6 steals, while shooting 45.8% from the field, 40.8% from three-point range and 92.4% from the free-throw line. George has taken it upon himself to carry more of the offensive load thus far even when Leonard is playing, scoring at least 20 points in nine-straight outings. This aggressive approach has done wonders for the Clippers.
James Harden is playing efficiently and making sacrifices
With the Clippers, James Harden isn't in a primary-scorer role. Although his resume speaks for itself, the 10-time All-Star and three-time scoring champ has deferred the scoring duties to Leonard and George. Instead, Harden&rsquo;s main job is to distribute the ball and keep the offense running, which makes scoring a secondary goal at this stage of his career. Also, he's constantly finding center Ivica Zubac for lob opportunities and even Norman Powell off catch-and-shoot actions.
This has led to one of Harden's most efficient seasons, as he's shooting a career-best 42% from three and a True Shooting percentage of 65%. Harden has been at his best when he's playing alongside the Clippers&rsquo; All-Star forwards, as the three-man lineup of Harden, Leonard and George has a net efficiency rating of plus-17.8 and has outscored opponents by 143 points.
Furthermore, the trio ranks first among the NBA's three-man lineups in several different categories including net rating (25.6), offensive rating (131.7), defensive rating (106), three-point percentage (43%), True Shooting percentage (65%) and turnovers (10.6).
Tyronn Lue finally playing bigs and shying away from center-less lineups
But perhaps the biggest difference between this year&rsquo;s Clippers and previous versions of the team might be Tyronn Lue finally playing his centers and using them to their full extent. His usual obsession with small-ball lineups &mdash; with wings at the 4 and 5 spots &mdash; has been non-existent this season, particularly since the team moved Nicolas Batum and Marcus Morris as part of the trade that netted Harden.
In previous seasons, Lue would close out games with Batum at the 5, or even at times playing George or Leonard there (which was kind of outrageous). Now, he utilizes his centers much better. On offense, Harden uses Zubac as a roller and rim threat for lobs, with Zubac catching and finishing easy buckets. Also, Russell Westbrook has good chemistry with backup center Daniel Theis in the second unit. Defensively, the Clippers no longer have a size disadvantage that leads to offensive rebounds by opposing players, as Zubac and incoming Mason Plumlee command minutes and bring physicality.
Using bigs has certainly changed the way Los Angeles plays. Everything seems to be going right for the Clippers, who will try to continue their strong play and contend for a championship.

PHOENIX (AP) &mdash; Kawhi Leonard scored 38 points, including a pair of late 3-pointers, and the Los Angeles Clippers beat the Phoenix Suns 115-110 in the opener of their Western Conference playoff series on Sunday.
Eric Gordon added 19 points and hit a late 3 that kept the Clippers ahead. Russell Westbrook shot just 3 of 19 from the floor for Los Angeles but made a pair of free throws with 17.7 seconds left for a three-point lead, then blocked Devin Booker&rsquo;s layup attempt at the other end and swatted the ball off Booker to give the Clippers the ball with 10.1 seconds remaining.
Kevin Durant scored 27 points for the Suns, who lost for the first time with him on the floor. Phoenix acquired the two-time NBA Finals MVP from Brooklyn in February and injuries limited him to eight games &mdash; all Suns wins.
Devin Booker added 26 points for Phoenix, which will try to avoid falling into a 2-0 hole at home on Tuesday.
The Suns trailed 109-103 with 1:33 remaining but scored the next five points. The Clippers grabbed multiple offensive rebounds on the ensuing possession before Westbrook made his critical free throws. He finished with nine points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, three blocks and two steals.
Los Angeles led for much of the evening until midway through the third quarter. Torrey Craig made back-to-back buckets, including one on a powerful fast-break dunk, to push Phoenix ahead 70-68.
It was part of a 15-0 run that put the Suns up 77-68. The Clippers, led by Leonard&rsquo;s 12 points in the third, recovered to tie the game at 81-all heading into the fourth.
Leonard &mdash; a two-time Finals MVP playing his first playoff game since June 14, 2021 &mdash; did much of his damage from the mid-range, but moved behind the 3-point arc in the game&rsquo;s late moments. He hit a 3 with 2:36 left and another at the 2-minute mark, finishing 13 of 24 shooting from the field.
The Clippers were missing one of their best players in eight-time All-Star Paul George. He sprained his right knee last month and it&rsquo;s unclear if he&rsquo;ll be able to play in this series.
Gordon scored 12 points as the Clippers jumped to a 30-18 lead after one quarter. The Suns shot just 31.8% from the field in the first quarter and Durant was held scoreless.
Durant missed his first five shots from the field before finally connecting on a mid-range jumper early in the second quarter. That seemed to shake the nerves and the 34-year-old poured in 17 points before the break, helping cut the Clippers&rsquo; lead to 59-54.

SCORING
Embiid is the NBA&rsquo;s scoring champion for a second consecutive year, averaging 33.1 points per game. His closest pursuers were Dallas&rsquo; Luka Doncic (32.4) and Portland&rsquo;s Damian Lillard (32.2).
This season was the first in NBA history when three players averaged at least 32 points per game. Embiid becomes the 19th player to win multiple scoring championships.
The high-point game this season was 71, done twice &mdash; Donovan Mitchell did it for Cleveland against Chicago on Jan. 2, and Damian Lillard did it for Portland against Houston on Feb. 26.
ASSISTS
Philadelphia&rsquo;s James Harden reclaimed the assist title, averaging 10.7 per game this season. It&rsquo;s his second time finishing as the leader in assists per game; he also did it in 2016-17 when he was with Houston.
Harden is the 13th player to win multiple assist titles. He also had the high-assist game by a player this season, with 21 of them in Philadelphia&rsquo;s win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Dec. 23.
REBOUNDS
Sacramento&rsquo;s Domantas Sabonis led the league in rebounds per game, averaging 12.3. It&rsquo;s his fourth consecutive season averaging at least 12 rebounds per contest, the longest such active streak in the NBA.
The most rebounds any player had in a game this season was 29, done by Ivica Zubac of the Clippers against Indiana on Nov. 27.
STEALS
Toronto&rsquo;s O.G. Anunoby edged Miami&rsquo;s Jimmy Butler for the steals title in a very close race. Anunoby averaged 1.91 per game, while Butler averaged 1.83.
Anunoby is the first Raptors player to win the steals crown. Butler was trying to become the 10th player with multiple steals titles; he also led the league in 2020-21.
Philadelphia&rsquo;s De&rsquo;Anthony Melton and Minnesota&rsquo;s D&rsquo;Angelo Russell had the most steals in a game this season. They each had seven, Melton getting his on Dec. 9, Russell on Oct. 28 &mdash; and both efforts were against the Los Angeles Lakers.
BLOCKS
Jackson Jr. has gone back-to-back as the NBA&rsquo;s blocked-shot champion, averaging 3.0 per game this season.
He&rsquo;s the first player to lead the league in blocks in two consecutive seasons since Anthony Davis (2013-14, 2014-15).
Milwaukee&rsquo;s Brook Lopez had the high-block game this season, swatting nine against Brooklyn on March 9.
THREE-POINTERS
Golden State&rsquo;s Klay Thompson had the most 3-pointers by a player this season, getting to 301 by making six in Sunday&rsquo;s finale.
Thompson is only the third player to make 300 3&prime;s in a season. Warriors teammate Stephen Curry has done it four times, and Philadelphia&rsquo;s James Harden did it while playing for Houston in 2018-19.
Portland&rsquo;s Damian Lillard had the most 3&rsquo;s in a game this season, connecting on 13 in his 71-point outburst against Houston on Feb. 26.
TEAM BESTS
Sacramento (120.7 points per game) led the NBA in average scoring this season. Denver (50.4%) was the NBA&rsquo;s best team from the field.
And from the line &mdash; be it the foul line or the 3-point line &mdash; nobody was better than Philadelphia.
The 76ers made 83.5% of their free throws &mdash; the second-best rate by a team in NBA history. The Los Angeles Clippers made 83.9% of their tries from the line in 2020-21.
The 76ers also shot a league-best 38.7% from 3-point range this season, just ahead of Golden State&rsquo;s 38.5%. The Warriors made 1,363 3&rsquo;s this season, a single-season record.

LOS ANGELES (AP) &mdash; Kawhi Leonard scored 27 points, Norman Powell added 23 and the Los Angeles Clippers solidified their hopes of avoiding the play-in game with a 136-125 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday.
Russell Westbrook had 20 points for the Clippers, who have won four of their last six and hold the fifth spot in the Western Conference.
Wins by LA and Minnesota on Saturday ensured the Clippers can finish no lower than seventh. Their best hope of avoiding the play-in game though is beating Phoenix on Sunday in what could be a preview of a first-round series.
While the Suns are expected to sit most of their starters, which they also did Friday night against the Los Angeles Lakers, coach Tyronn Lue said he will play everyone that he can.
&ldquo;I hope they sit all five guys. I&rsquo;ll take it however I can get it,&rdquo; Lue said. &ldquo;My main focus is doing what we have to do to get into the playoffs. It doesn&rsquo;t matter what seed.&rdquo;
The Clippers need a win in the final regular-season game to avoid landing in the play-in for the second straight season. They were the eighth seed last season and lost to Minnesota and New Orleans to miss the playoffs.
&ldquo;We have to win. That&rsquo;s the focus,&rdquo; Leonard said.
The Clippers would be assured of a top six seed if the Timberwolves beat the Pelicans on Sunday afternoon. A win would wrap up the fifth seed while a loss and Golden State win would drop them to sixth.
However, if the Pelicans win, the Clippers could fall into the seventh spot and host the play-in game on Tuesday with a loss. The only way they would avoid it in that scenario is if Portland beat Golden State and the Lakers defeated Utah.
&ldquo;The parity in the West is incredible this year. I&rsquo;ve seen some tough races, but this may be the toughest I&rsquo;ve seen. Just all the way down to today and tomorrow, guys need to win. It&rsquo;s some tough situations,&rdquo; Portland coach Chauncey Billups said. &ldquo;I hate that we are not participating in it, but there&rsquo;s been a lot of learning experiences this year because of that.&rdquo;
Kevin Knox II had 30 points, Shaedon Sharpe 26 and Trendon Watford 24 for the Trail Blazers, who have dropped three straight and eight of their last nine.
&ldquo;We played against a very desperate team. they are fighting and clawing for every win and they need it,&rdquo; Portland coach Chauncey Billups said. &ldquo;Our group came out and got it going. They made some adjustments in the second half when they needed to.&rdquo;

Clippers beat Blazers to bolster hopes of avoiding play-in

LOS ANGELES (AP) &mdash; Norman Powell scored 27 points, Kawhi Leonard added 25 and the Los Angeles Clippers improved their playoff seeding chances with a 125-118 win over LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night.
The Clippers&rsquo; 11th straight victory over their Crypto.com Arena hallmates pulled them into a tie with idle Golden State for fifth in the West at 42-38. The Clippers and Lakers came into their final meeting of the season tied in the standings at 41-38.
The Lakers had already clinched at least a play-in spot, but are trying to finish in the top six and earn one of the guaranteed postseason spots. The Clippers own the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Lakers.
James had 33 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and six turnovers for the Lakers, who were closing out a back-to-back. Anthony Davis had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Lakers, who had won four in a row and seven of eight.
Playing without injured Paul George, the Clippers got 17 points and 13 rebounds from Ivica Zubac. Facing the Lakers for the first time since their divorce in February, Russell Westbrook added 14 points.
Bones Hyland hit three 3-pointers and Terance Mann added another early in the fourth to extend the Clippers&rsquo; lead to 106-90. Powell sent a perfectly timed alley-oop pass over Davis and Leonard slammed it down for a 112-92 lead.
James and Davis took over in the third during the Lakers&rsquo; lone dominant stretch of the game. They combined to score 17 of their team&rsquo;s first 19 points during a run that cut the Lakers&rsquo; deficit from 21 points to eight. Davis scored over Mason Plumlee to draw the Lakers within seven.
But Powell ran off 10 in a row and Plumlee dunked to send the Clippers into the fourth leading 93-82. Leonard was limited to a 3-pointer in the third.
Coming in off three days&rsquo; rest, the Clippers opened the game with a 23-11 run in which a clearly motivated Westbrook scored eight points and assisted on their first two baskets.
The Lakers answered with a 15-2 spurt to take their lone lead of the first half, 26-25, while getting points from five different players.
The Clippers outscored the Lakers 34-21 in the second quarter to lead 71-52 at halftime. One of James&rsquo; no-look passes ended up in Mann&rsquo;s hands and he fired to Powell, who hit a 3-pointer. Another James turnover resulted in a dunk by Mann.
James and Davis combined for nine points on 4 of 12 shooting in the half.
The Clippers came in fresh, having had three days off. The Lakers, by comparison, eked out an overtime win at Utah on Tuesday night that required James and Davis to play even more minutes on the front end of a back-to-back.

Powell and Leonard lead Clippers over Lakers, 125-118

NEW ORLEANS (AP) &mdash; Brandon Ingram scored 36 points, bringing fans to their feet with an array of clutch, mid-range jump shots, and the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Los Angeles Clippers 122-114 on Saturday night.
Jonas Valanciunas had 23 points and 12 rebounds for New Orleans (40-38), which won for the seventh time in eight games and pulled within a half-game of the Clippers (41-38) for sixth place in the Western Conference.
Los Angeles lost its second straight despite getting 40 points from Kawhi Leonard, who played 41 minutes in New Orleans after being restricted to 18 minutes during a loss at Memphis a night earlier so that he&rsquo;d be more available against the hotly pursuing Pelicans.
CJ McCollum and Trey Murphy III each added 19 points for New Orleans, which trailed for most of the first three quarters but maintained a slim lead throughout the fourth.
Russell Westbrook had 24 points and nine assists for the Clippers. Ivica Zubac added 15 points and Norman Powell 12 for Los Angeles.

Brandon Ingram scored 36 points, and the Pelicans beat the Clippers 122-114 on Saturday night.
