"You are Doing a Podcast": Jamie Foxx Mocks Rashad McCants With LeBron James Dig

Jamie Foxx defending LeBron James in public is nothing new. Last year, the actor drew widespread social media praise for pushing back against critics during James' rough playoff stretch, right as the star neared 50,000 combined career points. Now, Foxx has once again shown his support for LeBron while taking a dig at one of his critics. 

In a viral video shared by fan account @MaskedInLA on X, originally posted by TikTok creator lance_asper, Jamie Foxx went after longtime LeBron critic Rashad McCants directly. During the argument, Foxx stated that LeBron has never been the "second-best player on any team", to which McCants replied, "he was, this season."

Hearing that, Foxx mocked McCants, saying, "He's 50 years old. Still hooping. He's [McCants] doing a podcast."

This is less a random insult than a fairly sharp piece of comedic timing, and it's worth breaking down why.

Why Foxx's Dig Landed So Hard

McCants has spent years building a media identity out of criticizing LeBron James, including tracing his dislike back to a 2001 high school ranking list where James beat him out for a top spot.

The irony Foxx is leaning into is direct. One man is still playing professional basketball into his 40s, and the other has turned commentary on that same player into a recurring podcast segment.

LeBron, despite being at the fag end of his career, last season posted 20.9 points per game, while averaging 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists. By statistics, he was perhaps the Lakers' second-best player, with Luka Doncic leading the charts for them.

But at 41, anyone would celebrate the number LeBron produced last season.

That is why Foxx has specifically targeted the credibility gap between playing the game and talking about it, which is exactly the kind of line that tends to travel further online than a simple "LeBron is the GOAT" argument would.

McCants has measured LeBron against an all-time standard and found him short, and it's precisely the setup Foxx needed to pivot into the "still hooping" line.

Rashad McCants Didn't Let It Go Quietly

McCants' response, per the same clip, leaned into the joke rather than fighting it off entirely.

"He's gaslighting me," McCants said, adding he'd "have to use the white women language now" to describe getting outmaneuvered in the exchange.

McCants stayed in character as the guy who won't back down from a LeBron take, even while acknowledging he'd been got.

That's consistent with years of McCants publicly saying he has no plans to soften his stance on James, regardless of how the exchanges land.

Whether that ends McCants' running commentary on LeBron is doubtful, given his track record, but it's the kind of exchange that will keep resurfacing every time the debate over LeBron's legacy flares up again.
