One of the biggest mysteries in the league right now is Kristaps Porzingis. Days before training camp opened, the Golden State Warriors revealed that Porzingis was dealing with an undisclosed health-related matter. Since then, he has missed training camp and the team’s first five preseason games.

Then, on Tuesday night, Porzingis finally returned to the Warriors' facility, but he will remain sidelined until further notice. The organization has chosen to keep the details of his situation private, and head coach Steve Kerr made it clear he won’t be giving daily updates.

“The thing with this whole situation is we’re just not going to get into, like, a daily discussion on, was he here today, was he practicing, was he doing this, was he doing that?” Kerr told reporters Thursday, via ClutchPoints’ Kenzo Fukuda.

“So, bottom line, he’s here with Mike [Dunleavy] and Rick [Celebrini], and so he will be back, he will be around, but we’re just not going to make it a daily, you know, sort of Kristaps discussion. When we have something to report, then we will do so.”

Given the secrecy around the situation, some Warriors fans are concerned about the severity of Porzingis' illness. For now, though, there’s no public information on how serious the issue is.

The Warriors also recently released a statement regarding the situation and mentioned how they'd rather keep the matter private for now.

"Golden State Warriors forward/center Kristaps Porzingis, who missed training camp and the team's first five preseason games due to a health-related matter, returned to the Warriors' practice facility yesterday and met with Warriors General Manager Mike Dunleavy and Vice President of Player Health & Performance Dr. Rick Celebrini," the statement reposted by NBA analyst Rachel Nichols reads.

"The specific contents of that meeting will remain private," the statement continues. "Porzingis will remain out indefinitely due to the same health-related matter but will be around the team. An update on his status, including the potential resumption of practice, playing status, or timeline, will be provided when available and appropriate."

Kerr has at least made it clear that Porzingis “will be back.” But with the regular season starting October 20 and no timeline in place, the question is when he’ll be available again. For now, Porzingis remains out indefinitely.

Kristaps Porzingis Breaks Silence on Abrupt Absence

Ever since Kristaps Porzingis went missing in action, fans hadn't heard from him directly. While there were several reports about what happened to him, Porzingis himself kept everyone in the dark about his situation.

On Wednesday, Kristaps finally broke his silence and went on social media to provide fans with an update on his status.

"Hello people, I'm working with doctors and experts to figure out how to be fully back to good health asap," Porzingis wrote. "Honestly, I'm getting better and better. I just have to stay patient, and I believe I'll be feeling great again soon."

"It has definitely been frustrating dealing with some health stuff that you can't exactly pinpoint, on top of injuries throughout my career, so it has added up for sure, but we will get through it. Health is wealth. Thank you for all the support," Porzingis added.

He also had a message for those trying to diagnose him online.

“I appreciate all the internet doctors trying to diagnose and help, but I’m in the best hands. So everyone can relax now, and I don’t have HIV or AIDS,” Porzingis wrote.

For now, the Golden State Warriors will need to make do without their star center. Hopefully their lack of size won't haunt them once the 2026-27 season commences.
