The 2026 NBA Preseason has already begun, and the Golden State Warriors are already dealing with some issues. During the offseason, the night before Media Day, the Warriors were abruptly notified that Kristaps Porzingis would not be able to participate in training camp due to an undisclosed health issue.
Fast forward to the preseason games, and Porzingis still hasn't returned to the lineup. In the Warriors' preseason opener against the LA Clippers on Sunday, the big man was nowhere to be found. Apparently, it's the same for Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr addressed the situation during the pre-game press conference.
"I think he'll be around now, but I haven't seen him yet," Kerr said.
True enough, Porzingis is listed on the bench for Tuesday's game against the Lakers, unlike in Golden State's game against the Clippers.
Warriors beat writer Joseph Dycus shared on X that Kerr is concerned about Porzingis' situation, but reassures him that the team will have his back no matter what.
"Later (Steve Kerr) said, 'It’s definitely concerning,' and that the team will support him," Dycus wrote.
Because nobody knows the true nature of Prozingis' ailment, there isn't a concrete timeline for when the big man will fully recover. This means that his status in the Warriors' season opener against the Lakers remains a huge question mark.
However, other reports indicate that he is still expected to participate in the regular season. Some of the Warriors' staff members declared that his absence won't be long-term or season-ending. It's a matter of how long he'll remain absent.
Steve Kerr Reveals What Stephen Curry Said Regarding Warriors Future
While Kristaps Porzingis' health situation remains a mystery, apparently, so does the future of Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry. Heading into the 2026-27 season, Curry will be playing on an expiring contract. This has sparked concerns among Warriors fans, with a vast majority speculating that he could be leaving the team soon.
However, Curry has turned down the rumors and reassured Golden State fans that he intends to retire as a Warrior. Steph explained that the delay in his contract extension is a matter of business. He's simply trying to wait for the ideal situation wherein both parties benefit from his new contract.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr recently doubled down on Curry's sentiments regarding wanting to remain a Warrior until retirement. During an interview with NBC Sports on Oct. 1, Kerr said he had the chance to speak with Curry at the end of the 2025-26 season. That's when Kerr learned that his star guard had no intention of leaving the team despite his contract situation.
"When we talked at the end of last year, I asked him if (leaving Golden State) was a consideration," Kerr shared. "And the first thing he said was, ‘I'm not moving my family. You know, that my family is so important to me. They're happy here.’ And he said, ‘I don't want to go anywhere.’"
So far, Curry doesn't have a bad track record of going against his word. Plus, given that Steph has played for the Warriors for 17 seasons now and is about to enter year 18 in the 2026-27 season, it no longer seems like a sensible move for him to move out of the Bay Area.
