Stephen Curry Links Up With Jayson Tatum at Massachusetts Days After Warriors-Celtics Trade Rumors

There have been rumors that Stephen Curry could be traded to the Boston Celtics. It all started when rumors circulated that Celtics president Brad Stevens might pursue Curry during the offseason.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, the rumors have grown wilder when Steph was spotted playing golf with Celtics star Jayson Tatum. According to sources, Curry and Tatum hit the Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown to celebrate former US President Barack Obama's 65th birthday.

Despite Steph hanging out in the Boston area, this doesn't necessarily confirm his interest in joining the Celtics. Other sources have reported that while Curry is playing on an expiring contract this coming 2026-27 season, the Golden State Warriors have full intentions of offering him an extension.

Another reason a trade between the Warriors and the Celtics is unlikely is the failed Jaylen Brown trade. Earlier this summer, the Golden State had the opportunity to trade for Brown; however, they decided not to pursue him. Their main issue was that they didn't see Brown as a fitting star replacement in the post-Curry era.

Having that logic in mind, it would seem that the Warriors would rather acquire another star to play next to Steph. While there's no doubt that Curry would be a valuable trade piece, the ideal situation is to build a team around their aging superstar.

However, given that the Warriors offered Draymond Green a one-year, $27.7 million deal, the team no longer has cap space to sign any other free agents. The only way for them to acquire stars to surround Curry with is via trade. But it doesn't seem like the Warriors have any intentions of shaking up their roster soon.

This has led Curry fans to grow frustrated with the Warriors organization, pleading with the team to let him go. Steph is now in the twilight years of his career, and many want to see him go out with a bang. Remaining on a Warriors team that doesn't look like it'll be contending for a title anytime soon will prevent Curry from doing so.

Former NBA Star Urges Stephen Curry to Leave the Warriors

While there's no guarantee whether Stephen Curry decides to stay with the Golden State Warriors or not, a former NBA player advises him to leave the Bay Area. During a broadcast of NBA Today in late July, Kendrick Perkins suggested that Curry should plan an exit strategy from Golden State.

Perkins' main concern was that the Warriors are no longer trying to build a championship roster. Coming into the 2026-27 season, Perkins sees the Warriors as a play-in team at best.

"Steph needs to be planning his exit strategy from the Golden State Warriors, (but) not this year," Perkins said on NBA Today. "The way that the West is stacked up, they're gonna be a play-in tournament team again. ... I want Steph Curry to retire in a Warrior uniform, but I also want to watch Steph Curry play meaningful basketball. ... With this roster and what they have, he's not gonna be there anytime soon."

For now, everything remains to be seen with Curry's future. As mentioned earlier, he's currently set to play on an expiring contract. Steph is signed to a one-year deal worth $62.6 million. Until the Warriors offer an extension, all we can do is speculate and assume that Curry won't stay in Golden State for long.
