“Not Overly Exciting Names”: Insider Downplays Warriors’ Brandon Williams, Georges Niang Signings for Stephen Curry

With the 2026-27 NBA season right around the corner, the Golden State Warriors have filled out the final two spots on their roster. According to multiple reports, Georges Niang and Brandon Williams are the newest additions to the squad.

95.7 The Game radio host Mark Willard weighed in on the signings recently, and while he'll admit it's not exactly the most earth-shattering move the Warriors could've made, he's still glad to see the organization taking steps to strengthen the roster.

"Listen, these are not overly exciting names, but they're NBA players," Willard said about Niang and Williams on 95.7 The Game. "These are not G-Leaguers. The Warriors never did make a splash this offseason, but they did bring in some credibility."

Williams, who previously suited up for the Dallas Mavericks, locked in a one-year minimum deal worth $2.6 million, making him the 14th member of the Warriors roster.

The 26-year-old also arrives with a built-in connection to at least one Warrior already, shortly after agreeing to his deal, Williams posted on X: "RUN IT BACK TURBOOOO @DeAnthonyMelton," referencing his new teammate De'Anthony Melton, with whom he shares a prior relationship.

Niang then stepped in to fill the 15th and final spot, agreeing to a one-year deal of his own worth $3.9 million.

Notably, this isn't Niang's first brush with the Warriors organization. He once played for the G League affiliate Santa Cruz Warriors after joining the Warriors in training camp back in 2017. The reunion gives Golden State a player already familiar with the organization's culture and development system.

The biggest concern right now is whether the Warriors made the right decision to bring in Niang. The last time the forward played was in the 2024-25 season. Niang was out for the entirety of the 2025-26 season due to a left foot injury. Court rust could prove to be a major issue when the 2026-27 season commences.

However, context softens that concern somewhat. Before the injury, Niang had been one of the more durable players in the league, appearing in 72, 76, 78, 82, and 79 games across five consecutive seasons. In his final healthy campaign in 2024-25, the 11-year veteran averaged 12.1 points per game for the Atlanta Hawks. The Warriors will be Niang's sixth team, and the 33-year-old carries a career 40% shooting mark from three-point range, widely regarded as one of the more reliable stretch-four profiles in the league.

The signing of Niang also fills a specific void the Warriors created this offseason. Golden State was in the market for a big man who could stretch the floor after losing Quinten Post in free agency to Memphis. In that context, Niang, rust aside, is a logical fit.

This could also turn out to be a major concern for Stephen Curry. While Curry and the Warriors denied the rumors of him leaving the team, league insiders and analysts can't help but speculate that there's still a good chance Steph could consider switching teams simply because of how poorly the organization has handled its offseason.

Sports Analyst Urges Stephen Curry to Leave Golden State

Stephen Curry is already in the twilight years of his career. Now 38 years old, the clock is ticking for Curry to win his fifth ring in his career. However, given how the Golden State Warriors have handled building its roster during this offseason, the future looks bleak for Steph in the Bay Area.

Having that in mind, sports analyst Stephen A. Smith urged Curry to leave the Warriors if he still wants to win the gold.

"Does Steph need to leave the Warriors to win a fifth title? The answer to that is yes," Smith said on a reposted episode of The First Take uploaded on X. "So if you want a title, you have to leave. You don’t let go of Steph Curry if you are the owner of the Golden State Warriors."

As of now, Steph is about to play on an expiring contract. He has yet to agree to a contract extension with the Warriors. Having that in mind, there's still a small chance of Curry deciding to leave Golden State if he ends up not signing an extension. However, for now, everything remains to be seen.
