This isn't the first time LeBron James' jumper has become the center of online scrutiny out of nowhere. Back in March, a clip from a Lakers-Rockets game went viral under the label "LeBron's jumper has abandoned him," fueling the same tired narrative that resurfaces every time he has an off shooting night. That cycle just repeated itself in the offseason gym setting, except this time the doubters got debunked almost as fast as the panic spread.

The controversy started when clips began circulating from a recent open run. It featured James alongside a group of current NBA players, including DeMar DeRozan, Jalen Johnson and Jaren Jackson Jr.

One version that made the rounds focused on a stretch of possessions where James missed several jump shots in a row. It fueled the usual wave of commentary about his age and shot as he prepares for his first season away from the Lakers in eight years.

It didn't take long for a counter-clip to surface. Additional footage from the same session showed James doing the opposite of struggling - knocking down jumpers, getting downhill and generally outplaying the group he was running with.

It effectively debunked the idea that he'd looked washed during the workout. Taken together, the two clips show just how easily a short, selectively edited video can shape a false narrative around a performance.

He moved to the Philadelphia 76ers after eight seasons with the Lakers. James signed with Philadelphia as a free agent this summer, joining a roster already built around former MVP Joel Embiid and All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey, and he's spent the weeks since working out publicly with both new teammates.

Every gym clip involving is seen as evidence, real or misleading, in the ongoing debate over how much he has left heading into a new chapter at age 41.

This isn't the first time footage involving James has needed a correction. Back in April, a clip claiming to show James dunking on Michael Jordan in a decades-old pickup game went viral with hundreds of thousands of views. It was then traced to a 13-year-old footage of a different player, Cedric Moodie, dunking on Jordan.

The pattern reflects just how much attention James draws even in unofficial games and moments. It's only intensified now that he's the new face of a 76ers team with real championship expectations.

This latest "struggling jumper" clip followed the same script: an initial edit built a narrative, and a more complete version quickly tore it down. For James, at least, the actual open run footage suggests reports of his decline remain, once again, greatly exaggerated as he begins his Philadelphia era.
