With the 2026 NBA Preseason officially underway, LeBron James' Philadelphia 76ers journey has officially begun. James has yet to play a game for the Sixers. He sat on the bench to watch his new teammates beat the New York Knicks on Monday, as the 76ers claimed a dominant 120-97 victory.

While everyone is still waiting for King James to make his debut in Philly, it appears that, despite playing for the 76ers, he doesn't live in the City of Brotherly Love. According to Front Office Sports (FOS), LeBron is currently living in New York and would consistently take a one-way chopper from Liberty City to Philadelphia.

"A one-way chopper from New York City to Philadelphia is about $4,000 to $10,000. It’s not known how much Fanatics’s deal with James is worth," as per FOS. "Flight records show the Fanatics helicopter James has used made a dozen round-trips between Philadelphia and New York in the past week."

Apparently, the King isn't paying any fees for his chopper rides. FOS also reported that LeBron secured a deal with sports platform Fanatics, run by former Sixers owner and now the company's CEO, Michael Rubin.

"LeBron James isn't paying a dime for his commute to and from Philadelphia to play for the Sixers due to his deal with Fanatics, which he negotiated with ex-Sixers owner and current Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin," per FOS.

LeBron's mode of transportation may seem too extreme to some, but honestly, it's well-deserved. After 24 years of greatness in the NBA, James has earned special perks, such as free helicopter rides.

For those unaware, James has previously signed an exclusive multi-year partnership with Fanatics, specifically their collectibles line. LeBron agreed to a deal in January 2024 with the company for its trading cards and other memorabilia. The free chopper rides are a complimentary perk he only recently gained access to.

Sports Analyst Thinks 76ers Are Trying to Prove Themselves to LeBron James

LeBron James may be the oldest active player in the NBA today, but he's technically the new kid on the block with the Philadelphia 76ers. Earlier in July, James signed a two-year, $8 million deal with the 76ers, forming a superteam with Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey.

While the Sixers have been Embiid's team for the most part and are slowly passing down the torch to Maxey, LeBron is still being treated with huge respect. Apparently, according to sports analyst Ramona Shelburne, the Sixers' stars are collectively trying to prove themselves worthy of playing alongside the King.

"I've been hearing Embiid's getting to the gym early; he's down to his rookie weight. This is a new Joel," Shelburne said on NBA Today. "Everybody's trying to kind of earn LeBron's approval and respect. I think there's an interesting quality to this now in Philly."

Shelburne then noted that this isn't the first time such a phenomenon has taken place. Apparently, one of James' former teammates with the Los Angeles Lakers, Anthony Davis, also did the same thing back when they were still a duo.

"I saw this here in Los Angeles in 2020, when Anthony Davis and LeBron James first got together for that full season, they won a championship," Shelburne continued. "Anthony Davis was like trying to impress LeBron. Like, he played every game. There was a tide lift amongst the stars too with the LeBron James effect. That's what I've been hearing out of Philly so far is this sort of LeBron is one of the greatest of all time, if not the greatest, and everybody kind of wants his approval."

Honestly, this doesn't come as a surprise. LeBron is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, players of all time. To have his approval is like receiving a stamp of approval that one has ascended to the expected heights of an NBA player.

Hopefully, this drive they have to impress the King will serve as fuel for the 76ers to gun for a championship run this season.
