"It's Maddening": Rachel Nichols Takes Shot at Warriors for Not Valuing Stephen Curry

Earlier this summer, the Golden State Warriors had the opportunity to revamp their roster for the better. Before the Philadelphia 76ers signed LeBron James, the Warriors had a genuine shot at acquiring the former Los Angeles Lakers star. However, due to various reasons, that never came to fruition.

Apparently, the Golden State had another opportunity to acquire another star who is now part of the 76ers. The star in question is Jaylen Brown. According to NBA insider Logan Murdock, the Warriors could've traded for Brown but decided not to. Sports analyst Rachel Nichols is now calling out the Dubs for not valuing Stephen Curry.

"Yes, because that's so much more important than what he could do DURING THE CURRY ERA," Nichols wrote on X. "It's maddening that the Warriors seem to value the end of Steph's career so much less than any of the rest of us."

Murdock reported that the Warriors were worried about their future when Curry retires. Golden State doesn't believe Brown is capable enough to lead the franchise to success in a post-Steph era.

"The Warriors decided not to trade for Jaylen Brown because they felt he wouldn’t be able to carry the franchise after Steph Curry retires," as per Murdock.

It's quite bizarre for the Warriors to think that way, especially after what Brown has shown last season with the Boston Celtics. For almost the entirety of the 2026-27 season, Brown carried the Celtics to the No. 2 seed without Jayson Tatum by his side.

Despite making a first-round exit, there are arguments that it was Tatum who ruined the team's dynamic when he returned late in the season. Had Brown been the sole leader in that series, the result could've turned out differently.

However, it could be due to his 2026 playoff failure that Golden State didn't see Brown's long-term value.

Bay Area Radio Host Calls Out Warriors for Not Preparing for Stephen Curry's Exit

Stephen Curry is one of the oldest players in the league. Earlier this year, the Golden State Warriors star turned 38 years old. Having said that, Curry is now in the twilight years of his career.

Looking at his contract, Steph is set to play on an expiring contract. He's currently signed to a one-year deal worth $62.5 million. While he may be eligible for an extension, we're not entirely sure what he'll decide to do after the 2026-27 season. He could either retire or move to another team.

With that in mind, 95.7 The Game host Mark Willard couldn't help but call out the Warriors for not making any significant moves this offseason.

"Steph Curry's days are numbered," Willard pointed out. "He is on an expiring deal next year. The organization continues to trumpet optionality and flexibility. They're great unless you decide to not use them."

To his point, the Warriors have had plenty of opportunities to strike deals with prominent NBA stars. However, they remain stuck to the same lineup. Draymond Green even went so far as to decline his player option to give his team some flexibility. While Green's decision was intended for LeBron James, Golden State never took the opportunity.

Given the current circumstances, it's unlikely we'll see Curry win another title in the Bay Area anytime soon, if ever.
