ESPN and LeBron James Reportedly Closing In on Major Documentary Project Similar to Michael Jordan's The Last Dance

Four-time NBA champion LeBron James is at the tail-end of what has been a fantastic career. Once he eventually hangs up his sneakers, many will want to look back at the highs and the lows of his over two decades in the NBA.

Knowing that fans want to revisit his career, it's safe to assume that there are people in the entertainment media space who'll want to capitalize on it. Something that ESPN has already gotten ahead of based on recent reports.

According to an article by Andrew Marchand on 'The Athletic', ESPN and James are close to agreeing on a deal for a docu-series. This documentary will focus on behind-the-scenes events similar to Michael Jordan's 'The Last Dance.'

In terms of how close they are, a source supposedly described the deal as being already at the "1-yard line."

According to Marchand, the documentary will cover James's final chapter with the Philadelphia 76ers. A camera crew is expected to follow him around during his time with the Sixers, whether that's one or two seasons.

While his Sixers stint is the reported focus, the documentary will also reportedly include footage from earlier in the 4-time champion's career.

Not only will fans be able to revisit moments from his career, but they will also see never-before-seen footage dating back to his maiden NBA season.

As usual, fans can also expect to hear interviews from people close to James, such as his teammates, coaches, and maybe even rivals, as well as the four-time NBA champion himself.

There Are Plenty Of Things to Cover In A LeBron James-centric Documentary

A documentary covering LeBron James' entire NBA career already has 23 years' worth of content.

The early part of his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers, a chapter that covers his rise into a bona fide star, and the early playoff failures he endured with rosters that some could argue were lacking.

Then, there's the infamous 'The Decision' in the summer of 2010. The year wherein seemingly, all of Ohio came together to convince him to remain in Cleveland, only for him to announce that he was joining the Miami Heat.

That was the beginning of his villain era, when he turned his back on the Cavs to join forces with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

He was heavily criticized for forming a superteam that ultimately failed to deliver on its promise to win "not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, not seven" championships.

They did win a title, repeating as NBA champs in 2012 and 2013, marking James' first two NBA titles.

Then, there's his return to the Cavs, when he began his redemption from being the league's villain—a chapter wherein he finally delivered on the promise of bringing a title to the franchise.

Afterward, there was his eight-year stint with the Los Angeles Lakers. The period in his career when he finally became the NBA's all-time leading scorer. A time when he continued to defy Father Time by performing beyond what was expected for his age.
