While Ernie Johnson’s retirement news after a long 37-year career had the whole NBA world in tears, the 70-year-old legendary broadcaster also knew the exact way to put a smile on everyone’s face. Just when we started to accept Johnson’s departure, he proved that quitting really isn’t his thing.

“Welcome to Good With That, my new show highlighting the come-ups, comebacks, good deeds and good sports,” he announced with an X post on October 31, 2026. “Stories that make you feel good. Full episodes every Friday on YouTube. Subscribe below. Glad to have you along.”

The heartbreaking retirement announcement earlier this week stemmed from Johnson’s declining health due to a 2-year-long heart issue and a recent bypass surgery. The former Inside the NBA host knew stepping away from the desk would be a hard decision to make, but was ready to do the deed when the time came. And the time was October 28, announced through a social media post.

“This will be my last season,” he posted last Wednesday. “Totally my decision. It’s just time … I’ve always prided myself on my preparation. The hours I put in every day, getting ready for the next show. I’ve always loved that part of my job. But I’ve always vowed that if that ever became more of a challenge than it is a joy, then I’ll know it’s time to step away. I know after 37 seasons, it’s time.”

But now, suiting up to reach the reporting studio won’t have to be a part of his daily life endeavours, as Johnson has now launched his own show through his new company, 32 Bowties. Instead of intense debates or traditional game analysis with co-hosts and former NBA stars Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O’Neal, Johnson will now be leaning towards more uplifting narratives, sharing those “feel-good” moments of sports.

And this is probably a gift in disguise. For those who have grown up with this iconic NBA host’s broadcasting, hearing him tap into different sports will definitely be exciting. His show, Good With That, is not limited to just the NBA, and will feature interviews with the people involved with whose “feel-good” stories.

“My weekly show celebrating all that's good in sports, feel-good stories. Make you laugh, make you smile. Maybe make you cry,” he said in the introductory video of his show. “So, if you're into those kinds of things, you have come to the right place. Welcome to 32 Bowties. Glad you're with us.”

As glad as he’d be having us along for the ride, it’ll also be a new level of exciting to see him assume a different role than what the NBA world remembers him for. But rest assured, we’ll also have him walking us through the March Madness and other CBS and TNT projects this season.
