The NBA 2026-27 season has finally arrived, with the New York Knicks taking on the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday. Earlier in June, the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs in five games in the 2026 NBA Finals to claim their NBA Championship. Having that in mind, Tuesday night's opening game was a huge moment for New York as the team received their championship rings prior to their matchup against Philly.
NBA insider Brett Siegel recently shared details about the Knicks’ championship rings, highlighting them as the most immersive set of accessories in sports history. Designed by Jason Arasheben, the rings feature a unique mechanism: twisting the band reveals a miniature Madison Square Garden, including a top-down view of the arena’s court.
"The Knicks' championship rings not only have a tier that pulls up to look like Madison Square Garden, but it also opens to reveal the entire court and top of MSG inside," Siegel wrote on X.
Siegel then noted all other details regarding the ring, including the amount of gemstones and the type of metal used.
"Details of the Knicks' championship rings: Crafted in white gold, just under 800 diamonds & sapphires, 22 total carats, a built-in mechanism to raise a miniature recreation of Madison Square Garden's exterior, all jersey numbers of the entire championship roster," Siegel also wrote on X.
With the 2026-27 season underway, everyone is intrigued to see if the Knicks can successfully keep up with the new Eastern Conference as the defending champions. Many teams in the East bolstered their rosters, making it more competitive than it once was.
Jalen Brunson Gives Speech at MSG During Knicks' Ring Night
As mentioned earlier, the New York Knicks took on the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday. Prior to the game proper was the traditional presentation of the NBA championship rings. Every season, during the defending champions' opening game, that particular team would receive their championship rings before the game started.
Upon receiving his ring, the Knicks' captain, Jalen Brunson, had a few words to tell New York fans in attendance at Madison Square Garden.
"What's up, Knicks fans? Most importantly, I want to say thank you to you guys for not leaving Game 4," Brunson said. "We really appreciate it. I mean, as much as we won (the 2026 NBA championship), we wouldn't have done this without you guys. This is unbelievable. This is really a dream come true. The joy that this city had this summer, we'll love to replicate that again."
Based on Brunson's speech, it appears that the Knicks are locked in to try to defend their title this season.
