Family ties in the NBA often carry as much weight as championship banners, and few stories have blended legacy and expectation quite like the James household. While LeBron’s next move has dominated headlines, it was his son, Bronny, who made his feelings clear about his father's move to Philadelphia.

Bronny and the Lakers are in Slovenia with Luka Doncic, who flew teammates over on a private jet to build chemistry in his home country. During a walk-through with a kid asking for photos, a young fan asked Bronny about his father leaving the Lakers. Bronny did not turn it into a speech.

"How did you feel that LeBron left?" the kid asked Bronny. “It’s whatever. It’s my dad,” Bronny said, via a video posted by SportsCenter on Instagram.

After two seasons as the first father-son teammates in NBA history, Bronny answered the Lakers' exit the way a 21-year-old answers an awkward question from a stranger: short, smiling, and finished.

He is still under a guaranteed Lakers deal. Meanwhile, LeBron James is on a two-year, $8 million contract with the 76ers. They are no longer a package, and Rich Paul had already said that when the rumours of LeBron leaving started.

The historic pairing played 294 minutes together for the Lakers, which included a debut against Minnesota in October 2024. Their last shared game was in the Western Conference semis against Oklahoma City. The on-court partnership is over. While the son stayed, the father left.

The Lakers drafted Bronny 55th in 2024 and have now guaranteed his 2026-27 salary. Coaches have spoken well of his work. He averaged 2.9 points and 1.2 assists in 42 games last season. He has also improved his 3-point FG percentage by more than 10% from the 2024-25 season.

While LeBron James will be chasing a fifth title with a loaded Sixers roster, Bronny is trying to become an NBA rotation player without sharing the floor with the all-time scoring leader.

What Bronny’s Answer Says About On-Court Life After LeBron James

Bronny did not criticize Los Angeles, nor did he follow his father. He did not pretend the eight-year LeBron run was still the center of his season. He shrugged and named the only title that still applies - my dad.

They were never going to be traded or signed as a pair. Christmas at Crypto.com Arena is already circled as a possible first father-versus-son meeting. Until then, Bronny’s job is South Bay, a few NBA minutes, and proving that he belongs on a roster built around Doncic and Austin Reaves. In the meantime, LeBron James’ job is Philadelphia, alongside Embiid, Jaylen Brown, and Tyrese Maxey.
