Victor Wembanyama Addresses Spurs Fans Getting Attacked in New York After Game 3 of NBA Finals

Sure, the San Antonio Spurs managed to cut the New York Knicks' series lead to 2-1 with a four-point victory in the NBA Finals, but the game saw more than just a win on the court. Videos of Spurs fans being beaten up on the streets of New York went viral on social media. Apparently, some Knicks fans got into fistfights with people wearing Spurs jerseys. And when Victor Wembanyama was asked about the same, he kept his answer straight.
"Spurs fans got attacked? I didn't know that," Wembanyama initially reacted upon receiving the news. "My thoughts, of course, are that we can't forget it's a game. We're just playing a game out there. I am all for passion, but with respect for each other. It's unacceptable."
According to The New York Times, several Knicks fans were arrested following the a--ault of innocent Spurs fans. Some might even face criminal charges, especially those who initiated the fight near Bryant Park during the watch party.
To be specific, the NYPD brought 21 people into custody on Monday. Eight of them were formally arrested and charged, while 13 were released with criminal court summonses. Charges included multiple counts of a--ault and attempted a--ault on police officers.
Sources also reported that five NYPD officers were injured while trying to de-escalate the fights that broke out over 42nd Street.
And while Wembanyama made his stance clear, he wasn't the only NBA star to comment on the postgame chaos.
Karl-Anthony Towns echoes Victor Wembanyama's statement regarding fans fighting
This isn't the first time New York fans have been put in the hot seat. Throughout the 2026 NBA Playoffs, they have been labeled a rowdy and unruly bunch that tends to get out of control.
During the second round of the playoffs, former New York Knicks star J.R. Smith decided to celebrate his former team's victory with the Madison Square Garden crowd outside. Smith immediately regretted that decision as he was pushed around and knocked down on the ground by the fans.
It appears that the situation is getting worse, as New York fans have stooped to a new low of attacking San Antonio Spurs fans in the area. Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns also chimed in regarding the sickening situation, echoing Victor Wembanyama's sentiments.
"The game is built on respect and passion," Towns said in a press conference interview on Tuesday. "We want everyone to respect each other. We want everyone to enjoy basketball at its purest state. I mean, it's the NBA Finals. There's no better place to watch basketball. Leave the physicality to everyone on the court."
At the moment, there is not much clarity on how New York authorities plan on handling the situation, especially since Game 4 will still be held at MSG.
