“Of Course They Are Preparing”: Stephen A. Smith Addresses Heat Leaking LeBron James’ Introductory Press Conference

The Miami Heat's media team is currently in big trouble after accidentally leaking LeBron James' introductory press conference. The leak took place on Tuesday when the social media team uploaded a scheduled post of James' press conference on the Heat's official YouTube channel. It was quickly delisted and marked as private.

Since then, social media has been buzzing, practically confirming that LeBron is headed back to South Beach. However, sports analyst Stephen A. Smith believes that the Heat were simply preparing in case James did decide to sign with the team. From Smith's point of view, the King hasn't signed with Miami yet.

"If you’re the Miami Heat or any other organization, you are preparing for the possibility that LeBron James may choose you as a team that he’s about to come to ... mistakes like that happen," Smith said on his show.

"Of course they're preparing for it ... it just means if he decides to go there, you better be ready in a nanosecond to hype it up, announce it and be ready for the press conference ... a lot of people thought it was an indication that he may have secretly told the Miami Heat that ‘I’m coming to you.’"

Despite the hiccup on Miami's end, James hasn't officially signed with the team. The Heat themselves confirmed that their social media team posted it by mistake, as it was a simple preparation in case James decided to sign with them.

As of this writing, aside from the Heat, James is still choosing among the Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Golden State Warriors.

Why LeBron James is Taking His Time With His Free Agency Decision

It's been nearly a month since LeBron James announced that he was no longer going to play for the Los Angeles Lakers. Since becoming a free agent, the NBA world has been glued to every rumor and report, waiting for James to reveal his next destination. One of those people closely monitoring the situation was NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

The commissioner previously urged James to make his free agency decision as soon as possible so the league could lock in its 2026-27 regular-season schedule. In fact, Rich Paul recently reiterated that the four-time MVP "won't be rushed" into making what he described as a business decision, emphasizing that the timeline will be dictated solely by James, not by the league or outside pressure.

As per Baskin, James' camp was all set to make the announcement, which means the 41-year-old star had already made his selection.

Given those circumstances, while sports analyst Stephen A. Smith and the Miami Heat organization themselves admitted that the LeBron James press conference leak was a mistake, it could turn out to be otherwise.
