Kawhi Leonard Makes Big Move in Toronto, Says NBA Legend Amid NBA Investigation

Kawhi Leonard’s return to Toronto was supposed to be done in June. The Raptors and Clippers agreed to a trade. Then the NBA’s Aspiration investigation froze the deal. Stephen Jackson has now said Leonard is not waiting on paperwork. He already has a house in Toronto.

On All the Smoke, Stephen Jackson made a statement that created the headline. “They say Kawhi got a house in Toronto already. So don’t let him get a seat on that.”

If the deal is still officially paused, a residence in the city where he won a title is a personal move. He also brought up what started the probe.

“They say Kawhi had a multi-million dollar endorsement deal with the scoreboard, the scoreboard maker, the company that made the scoreboard was paying him millions of dollars. You know who’s been digging this shit? That boy Pablo Torre.”

The agreed package would send Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick and a pile of draft capital to Los Angeles for Leonard. Toronto hit pause after the league said the Raptors would assume the risk of any penalties tied to Leonard.

Possible outcomes still include fines, lost picks or worse if the investigation lands on cap circumvention. That is why a house in Toronto is not a small lifestyle point. It's Leonard acting like the reunion is real while the deal is still waiting to be sanctioned by the league.

The investigation, now more than 11 months old, centers on and around a $28 million Aspiration endorsement deal described as a possible no-show arrangement tied to Clippers owner Steve Ballmer. Additional reports revealed a separate deal with Daktronics, the company behind Intuit Dome’s video board.

Commissioner Adam Silver told he wants the probe wrapped before the 2026–27 season. Until then, the Clippers and Raptors cannot finalize the package.

Pablo Torre released internal Clippers marketing emails, complicating the organization’s defense in a nearly year-long salary-cap investigation. It showed that the staff allegedly coordinated promotional appearances for Kawhi Leonard tied to a previously undisclosed Daktronics sponsorship.

The NBA found no evidence that Clippers owner Steve Ballmer funneled money through team sponsors to pay Leonard to circumvent the salary cap. ESPN’s Don Van Natta Jr., Baxter Holmes and Ramona Shelburne cited three people with knowledge of discussions between the league and the team.

The league reportedly is now focused on whether the team’s role in introducing Leonard to sponsors like Aspiration and Daktronics violated rules against salary-cap circumvention. And whether the organization is guilty of “failure to supervise” its own employees.

“We introduced players, including Kawhi Leonard, to companies with which we had business relationships," the Clippers addressed the finding in a statement to ESPN. "Making introductions between players and team partners is both an ordinary practice by NBA teams and a common request of players and representatives,” the team said, adding it did not “negotiate or dictate” the terms of Leonard’s endorsement deals.
