The Giannis Antetokounmpo trade saga has finally come to an end, with the Miami Heat winning the race to sign the two-time MVP, significantly bolstering their title hopes. But discussions about his Milwaukee exit have not died down by any means. There were reports that the now-former Bucks star was not a happy man, and a recent revelation by an insider shows just how discordant things had become.

According to an article by Jim Owczarski for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Antetokounmpo considered some former teammates selfish with the way they played.

“Antetokounmpo let it be known he did not like locker room leaks, but his mental state was chronicled nearly all season by anonymous sources. He pleaded for accountability but then tried to pass off those reports as someone else’s doing. He would call his teammates selfish, but then stand on a visiting team’s court with a former coach and yell about how that person would make sure he got the ball," Owczarski 's article read.

This is not the first time that he thought there was an issue with the team. Back in January, he said that the Bucks were not playing winning basketball.

Giannis pointed to chemistry issues, saying some players were hunting their own shots and trying to do everything on their own instead of playing team basketball. "Guys are being selfish, trying to look for their own shots instead of looking for the right shot for the team. Guys trying to do it on their own," the Greek freak had said.

Giannis also had some issues with the coaching staff and the front office. He and Doc Rivers could just never seem to get along, and that affected the entire team.

He also felt there was a complete lack of accountability, especially as leaks kept getting reported in the media.

Now that he's with the Miami Heat, Antetokounmpo has a chance at a complete culture reset. Additionally, it's with a franchise that was reported as his top preferred destination. He felt that the Heat would have assets that would allow it to contend for the championship.

The same can't be said for the Milwaukee Bucks, who haven't made a statement in the postseason since their championship win in 2021, led by Finals MVP Giannis.

Who Did the Milwaukee Bucks Get in the Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade?

The Bucks also lost another important player in Bobby Portis Jr., who played a crucial role in their 2021 championship run. This means they no longer have any players on their roster who know what it's like to win a title with the franchise. By choosing the Miami Heat's trade package, it's clear the Bucks are committed to a full rebuild in the hope of getting back there someday with a new core.

The oldest player Milwaukee acquired in the trade is Tyler Herro, who is 26. Almost everyone else is younger.

Jaime Jaquez Jr., who was a finalist for the Sixth Man of the Year award this past season, is only 25 and has three seasons of NBA experience.

Big man Kel'el Ware turned 22 in April and will be entering just his third NBA season when the 2026-27 campaign begins. Kasparas Jakucionis just wrapped up his rookie season and turned 20 this past May.

Aside from those four players, the Heat also gave Milwaukee this year's 13th overall pick, as well as first-round picks in 2031 and 2033. They also included a pick swap in 2030 and a second-round pick in 2033.

With the 13th pick, the Bucks selected Nate Ament out of Tennessee, further adding to their youth movement. They also drafted Brayden Burries out of Arizona with their own 10th overall pick.

Milwaukee now has plenty of potential foundational pieces to rebuild with, and they may not be done yet.

Some rumors suggest the Bucks are interested in flipping Herro later, likely in an effort to accelerate their rebuilding timeline.
