Giannis Antetokounmpo Has Concerns About Miami Roster as Only Untouchable Heat Star Revealed, Per Reports

The Miami Heat appear to be leading the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors as we head toward the offseason. For starters, they're an Eastern Conference team, which is where the Greek Freak reportedly wants to stay. Miami is also a city that he has previously admitted to being fond of. But Heat fans can't celebrate reports of his interest just yet, because there are concerns he has about the players he could be teaming up with in the 305.
According to NBA insider Sam Amick on the Dan Patrick Show, Giannis is worried about Miami's depth after they make a potential trade for him. Nearly everyone on the Heat is fair game in a Giannis-centered deal. The only exception would be Heat star Bam Adebayo.
Of course, the Heat won't send everyone to Milwaukee. The prominent names surfacing are Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, and Jaime Jaquez Jr., but they are major members of the Heat's core, and if they're traded, where does that leave Miami and their chances at competing?
If Giannis were traded, he wants to be playing with a contending team. Even if he and Adebayo were together, it would be difficult to legitimately compete for the championship without elite role players and reliable specialists supporting them. It's the problem he has been facing in Milwaukee ever since his championship run in 2021.
This situation creates a dilemma for the Heat. They can land Giannis by letting go of their blue-chip assets, but it sets them back.
Putting together a supporting cast around Adebayo and Giannis is doable. However, it is quite improbable to do so in the same summer in which they trade for the Greek Freak.
The Heat could build this in stages, but they will need to convince Giannis of that before the end of the 2026-27 season. Otherwise, he can decline his player option for 2027-28 and become an unrestricted free agent.
The other part of this conversation is whether the Heat can put together the most convincing trade package. On that front, a rival Eastern Conference team might have them beat.
The Boston Celtics Are Also Emerging as a Giannis Antetokounmpo Destination
At the beginning of this whole Giannis trade saga, they were fairly quiet. But with each passing day, the Boston Celtics are starting to make more and more noise. For starters, they're a contending team that's located in the East.
But to patch the concerns the Heat are giving Giannis, Boston also has the right trade pieces, and can retain their depth should they do this deal.
Jaylen Brown is the name on the block, and many see him as a fair replacement. The move would allow the Celtics to immediately compete for a championship with Jayson Tatum and Giannis, while giving the Bucks a chance to begin their climb back to the top with Brown, who carried Boston's playoff push while Tatum was sidelined for much of the 2025-26 season with an Achilles injury.
A Giannis-for-Brown trade is possible and can be completed without involving other assets or teams. That would allow the Celtics to retain their depth while still leaving room for additional moves to improve the roster.
“While league sources have long maintained that he’s interested in joining the Heat, there are also indications that he’s very intrigued with the prospect of joining a Celtics team that, by any objective measure, is deeper and more dynamic than Miami’s and could thus remain more competitive after a blockbuster deal," Amick wrote on The Athletic.
Of course, there are also Western Conference teams in the mix. The East may be Giannis' preferred conference, but the Bucks don't have to honor that.
The Portland Trail Blazers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, and even the Oklahoma City Thunder have all been linked to Giannis trade discussions.
If any of those teams submits a more compelling trade package, the Bucks may decide to accept it.
