Ex-Warriors Star Wants Stephen Curry to Join Victor Wembanyama in Massive Trade Idea

Stephen Curry stood at a charity event in Palo Alto last week and ended speculation about his future. “There’s no question I want to be here the rest of my career,” he said. “Extension stuff, we’ll figure that out at the right time.” Stephen Jackson heard a different question about whether this Warriors roster still wins a title, and answered with one word: “Nah.”

Then he sent Curry to a Western Conference rival. “San Antonio for me,” Jackson said on All The Smoke. “You got De’Aaron Fox. They can package one of those, and I ain’t even talking about Harper, or Castle, they got two big draft picks this year, so they did well in the draft. So they got the pieces to move for a Steph with De’Aaron Fox. I think that would be great.”

Bill Simmons gave the same take in July - Fox plus assembled firsts for “a couple years of Steph” - and also took Castle and Harper off the table. Fox put up 19.7 points and 6.8 assists last season, then struggled in a 4–1 Finals loss to the Knicks.

That is why the idea keeps coming back. The Spurs already have the young backcourt. What they do not have is a shooter who bends a defense the way Curry does.

Golden State is not shopping him. Mike Dunleavy said Curry wants to win and wants to finish as a Warrior. The extension window opened Aug. 29. Curry can sign up to two more years and about $136.7 million, or wait and hit free agency in 2027.

Joe Lacob has said he cannot imagine a scenario where Curry leaves. Jackson sees the scenario anyway, because the Warriors missed LeBron and the other stars they chased this summer.

The basketball reason is simple. Drop the greatest shooter alive next to a 7-foot-5 playmaking center and defenses get worried. San Antonio just played for a title and lost. Adding Curry would be the win-now swing Jackson thinks they can afford without gutting the core.

Spurs used 2026 first-rounders on Jayden Quaintance and Tarris Reed Jr. and still hold extra firsts and swaps. Fox is the salary-matching piece, and the problem.

He just started a four-year max worth roughly $222 million. League sources said in July the Spurs still see him as part of the future and do not view him as movable right now.

Nobody inside Golden State has said Stephen Curry is available. Jackson said the current roster cannot contend and that San Antonio has the parts.
